Rochester Institute of Technology recently became a partner in the SUPREME Center (Superior Energy-efficient Materials and Devices), a new $34 million research center based at Cornell University. The center will focus on development of energy-efficient semiconductor materials and technologies. As part of SUPREME, RIT will seek to demonstrate scalable performance improvements in future microsystems by developing novel device architectures through the use of new physics and material properties. Three Orange County communities have been named the recipients of transformational grant awards through NY State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and NY Forward Program. The City of Port Jervis will receive a $10 million DRI Grant which will be used for housing, modern infrastructure upgrades and unique adaptive reuse opportunities. The Town of Cornwall and Cornwall on the Hudson will be awarded a combined $4.5 million which will be used for tourism, recreation opportunities and community enhancements that will drive new visitors and economic activity to the area. | Read More at Hudson Valley Press

As consumer demand for plant-based proteins expands, NY farmers are exploring new diversification opportunities. Chickpeas have begun to emerge as a standout in this developing market. About two years ago, a few farms in Schuyler County began growing chickpeas to explore the potential of the crop. The North Country Chamber of Commerce and NAmTrans announced that Alstom has officially joined the New York-led, multi-state consortium for the Northeast to become one of at least four regional clean energy hydrogen hubs. Alstom has now joined a coalition of more than seven states and over 100 clean hydrogen ecosystem partners that are laying the groundwork for a proposal to the Department of Energy for up to $8 billion in funding. The program is in its fourth year, and this spring will reach over 200 graduates, many of whom are highly sought after. The Program is open to training programs offering industry-recognized credentials and certificates in high-demand fields by helping trainers make capital investments crucial to industry-driven workforce training.
