Regeneron Pharmaceuticals—a biotechnology company that invents, develops, and manufactures medicines—will create 1,000 new jobs as part of a $2 billion investment in its facility in Saratoga Springs. Last year, Regeneron purchased the former Quad Graphics printing facility at 56 Duplainville Road. The more than one-million-square-foot property will be repurposed. | Saratoga Today has the story here.

A longtime cheese producer in Steuben County is in line to get a major upgrade that will lead to additional jobs. Wisconsin-based cheesemaker BelGioioso Cheese will invest more than $23 million to upgrade and expand operations at two locations in New York state. | Read more here.

Construction on a new mixed-use affordable housing development on the corner of Livingston Avenue and Broadway in Albany has been underway since August. | The Times Union reports on the project.

New York State Electric & Gas has installed a new 56 MVA transformer at the Bath Substation. The substation improvement will help improve energy capacity and reliability to more than 4,700 customers in Steuben County. | See the story on The Leader here.

A major redevelopment project is now underway on a longtime senior living campus in Westchester County, where construction has begun on a $74 million affordable housing complex. | The Daily Voice has more.

Since breaking ground in the summer of 2009, semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries and its Fab 8 campus have served as a major economic driver for the Capital Region. One of its biggest impacts is in job creation. | Spectrum News 1 has more on the local impact.

Officials from GE Vernova gave local business and civic leaders, along with the news media, a “sneak peek” at its efforts to double down on its operations in Schenectady County. | Read more on the Times Union.

New York state will delay its statewide mandate to build all-electric buildings, which was scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2026. Known as the All-Electric Buildings Act, the legislation was tucked in the state budget in 2023. | Spectrum News 1 has more here.

New York has approved permits for a pipeline that would transport natural gas from Pennsylvania through New Jersey and to an offshore transfer point near Queens, where it would increase fuel supplies for New York City and on Long Island. | Read more at the Times Union.

The Bigger Picture

US economy saw stronger-than-expected job growth in September, but the unemployment rate rose


The latest snapshot of the US labor market showed an unexpected rebound of 119,000 jobs in September but a loss for August and a lower total for July. The report was originally scheduled for October 3 but released late after a seven-week delay due to the government shutdown.

Governor Hochul Announces Completion of $31 Milllion Affordable Housing Development in Syracuse


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of Creekside Landing, a $31 million development of 52 affordable units spread throughout the city of Syracuse’s Southside and Westside neighborhoods. The project constructed new buildings and renovated a vacant former office building into apartments and a workforce training center.


New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) has created or preserved more than 2,600 affordable homes in Onondaga County, including 1,400 in Syracuse.
