Plans have been unveiled for the $15 million, 5,000-square-foot Micron Cleanroom Simulation Lab at Onondaga Community College. The facility, which will be held to ISO Class 5 and 6 cleanroom standards and located at OOC's Whitney Applied Technology Center, will be a vital tool to help to train students in Central New York for jobs at Micron. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2024 or early 2025. In addition to constructing the cleanroom, OCC is advancing its academic programs. The number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased over the month of October by 10,300, or 0.1%, according to preliminary seasonally adjusted figures released by the state Department of Labor. The number of private sector jobs stands at 8,252,000. Between October 2022 and October 2023, private sector jobs increased by 97,400, or 1.2%, the department said. | See the data on Spectrum News 1.
U.S.-based employees of GlobalFoundries will soon be able to receive tax-free financial assistance from the company to pay down student-loan deb, the chipmaker announced. Vishay Dale Electronics LLC, a manufacturer of electronic components with a Milwaukee-area plant is planning an $8.2 million expansion in upstate New York. Lactalis American Group hopes to secure $1.2 million in tax breaks for a $45 million infrastructure and equipment upgrade that is expected to create 27 jobs. The South Buffalo subsidiary of French cheese and dairy giant Group Lactalis wants to "modernize and revitalize" its 50-year-old manufacturing complex on South Park avenue for projected growth. | The Buffalo News has more about this investment.
CooperVision celebrates 150,000 sq. ft. expansion in Henrietta, Monroe County. This new 150,000 sq. ft. expansion is for packaging and storage, all to keep up with demand. CooperVision makes contact lenses at facilities worldwide, including some made in Scottsville. They have been at the Henrietta location since 2006, and the process to start the expansion started in 2021, and they broke ground last year. An enhanced version of the Database of Economic Incentives, first launched in 2021, is now live. The database provides detailed, up-to-date data on economic development projects throughout New York State.
The system is nation-leading in terms of number of programs and projects included, frequency of updates, and the number of data fields provided for each project.
