The IDA Academy provides regular training for Industrial Development Agency (IDA) staff and executives on a variety of issues to help operate an IDA more efficiently and effectively. The NYSEDC administers this program in partnership with its IDA members, state agencies, and other industry experts. Central Islip-based Nationwide 360, a manufacturer of trade-show exhibits, plans to expand, and is getting support from the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency. The manufacturer aims to invest more than $18.8 million to purchase and renovate a 75,000-square-foot building on 4.25 acres at 40 Adams Avenue in Hauppauge. The company expects to retain 33 full-time jobs with average salaries of more than $91,000 annually, as well as create 10 new jobs, which would boost their total payroll to more than $3.7 million. | Read at Long Island Business News

The Raymond Corporation Expands to Broome County with New Energy Facility in Binghamton. The new facility continues the corporation's work towards advanced energy solutions, including lithium-ion battery packs in the company's forklifts. Hydrogen fuel cells are also present to help the transition to clean energy in the region. | Click here for the story.

Albany County Industrial Development Agency provided a $9 million tax incentive to contribute to the over $40 million expansion of Atlas Copco. Atlas Copco is the sole manufacturer for large-scale carbon dioxide compressors for green energy in the U.S. The compressors are used for carbon capture and carbon sequestration. The funding secured by the ACIDA and the Advance Albany County Alliance and federal support will allow Atlas Copco to expand by 65,000 feet and localize production to its Voorheesville facility. | Read more at Albany Times Union.

Brightline West and Siemens Mobility joined on September 9 to announce that Horseheads will be the location of the first high-speed rail production facility in North America. With production expected to begin in 2026, the facility will make America’s first high-speed trains — the American Pioneer 220 — which will operate on Brightline West’s Las Vegas to Southern California line.| Get the story at Business Facilities.

The Westchester County IDA final approval of financial assistance for construction of a $94 million all-affordable apartment complex at a 3.4-acre site at30 Water St. in the Village of Ossining. The developer of the project is WBP Development LLC. This innovative project will transform a former industrial site into an attractively designed, fully affordable housing development. | Read more at Westfair Business Journal.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.5 million grant to the County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency for the expansion of the Oswego County Industrial Park, including water and roadway improvements, to support business development for the growing manufacturing and semiconductor industries in the region. This EDA investment will be matched with $2.5 million in local funds and is expected to create 1,200 jobs, retain 250 jobs, and generate $265 million in private investment.

Hudson Valley Community College celebrated the opening of a new STEM Education Center in Malta on September 5. The facility is part of a $17 million project to expand HVCC North. | Get the story at News10

Hochul says Nuclear power needs to be in state's energy mix to achieve climate goals. Typical workers in New York and across the country are putting in fewerhours than they have in years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, continuing a downward trend. Full-timers are still averaging more than 40 hours a week, though even they are working, on average, 90 minutes a week fewer than those working 30 years ago. Declines in hours among part-time workers dropped the average of all private-sector employees in New York to 32.7, the lowest in 17 years. | Read more at Olean Times.

Comptroller DiNapoli Issues Report on the Economic Impact of Higher Education 


A new report by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli highlights the higher education sector’s importance to New York’s local economies and to the state’s overall economic health. The state’s 290 degree-granting, postsecondary institutions employed over 296,000 people, paying wages of around $26.5 billion in 2023, but the sector still has over 13,000 fewer jobs since the pandemic. | Click here for the full report.

New York 2023 Record Setting Year for Tourism

NY officials say 2023 was record-setting year for tourism. New York welcomed a record-setting 306.3 million visitors in 2023, Visitors contributed to a record-high $88 billion in direct spending, and supported a historic $137 billion in total economic impact across the state. The data, which has a regional focus on the Buffalo Niagara region, represents significant gains over the then-record-setting numbers from 2022, and far surpass the highest numbers achieved prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. | Read more at Niagara Gazette.
