Micron Technology has hired a global engineering firm to design Micron's planned chipmaking plant in the town of Clay. The Empire State Development Board has provided $20 million to fund the $41 million expansion of BETA Technologies' facility at Plattsburgh International Airport. The facility will work to invent new aerospace technology, such as electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL). With funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Cornell and a group of institutional partners have created the Upstate New York Energy Storage Engine to advance energy storage technology and boost large-capacity battery manufacturing in upstate New York -- which could enable advances in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. Cornell will coordinate a multi-institutional network of prototyping, piloting and scaling up resources for new technologies.
