As we approach the 2021 Conference of the New York State Federation of Republican Women, this is what a 2-year term has looked like for me.
2019: Beginning one month after our annual conference, I hit the road and visited seven clubs and/or county events throughout New York State. Additionally, I attended my first NFRW convention in Indianapolis, IN with several of our NYSFRW members where we were honored to cheer from the front row as our very own Past President Ann Schockett was elected and installed as President of the National Federation of Republican Women! Internally, I began a monthly “President’s Roundtable” which allowed all NYSFRW members the opportunity to join in via conference call to catch up on what was happening within our organization.
2020: The year started off strong! We brought on two new clubs: Republicans Women's Club of Columbia and Rensselaer Counties and Yates County Republican Women’s Club and welcomed back Kings County Republican Women’s Club! And then tragedy struck our country, our world with the COVID-19 pandemic! “Zoom”, “virtual”, facemasks, safe social distance, hand sanitizer and “6 feet apart”, became common, everyday words and phrases. Travel was put on an indefinite hold and life as we knew it was put on pause. Our in-person conference was cancelled and moved to a first-time ever “virtual” conference thanks to the generosity of the NFRW for purchasing a Zoom license for all states and their clubs to use for the remainder of the year. While we maneuvered through the pandemic guidelines imposed by the NYS Governor, we fought hard for the re-election campaign of President Trump and many of our elected officials.
2021: While 2020 didn’t turn out the way we had hoped, we start off on a high note with the escalation of approvals and eligibility for those hoping for the vaccine. Secondly, we hope to have two new clubs join our organization very soon!
So while we once again hold our annual conference in a virtual manner, we look forward to the election of new officers and renewed hope for normalcy!
I thank you all for your support these past two years! And while they were unconventional to say the least, I was honored to have represented you as your President and I look forward to seeing you all very soon in person and at the Conference!
