An Interview with Dr. Roberta Rosen, School-Based OT

September marks the start of a new school year! When the last Labor Day barbecue is over, students prepare their backpacks and are ready to learn and enjoy a fresh start. At the same time, school-based occupational therapy practitioners prepare to provide services that are impactful and meaningful, based on their students' needs. They focus on academics, play, leisure, social participation, self-care skills, as well as transition and work skills. This month, we interviewed Roberta Rosen, OTD, OTR/L, a school-based occupational therapist for the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE). In this article, Roberta shares her experience and valuable insights.

Glen Gillen is NYSOTA's 2022 Hinojosa Lecturer

One of the highlights of this year's Conference will be the prestigious Jim Hinojosa Memorial Lecture presented by Glen Gillen, EdD, OTR, FAOTA. Dr. Gillen's lecture, Choosing Our Occupational Therapy Assessments and Interventions Wisely will focus on promoting best practice across the lifespan. Updated guiding principles of the Choosing Wisely initiative will be shared and discussed with a particular focus on commonly used interventions that should be called into question. OTs and OTAs are Eligible for the NYS Health Care and Mental Hygiene Worker Bonus Program

New York State is recognizing the efforts throughout the pandemic of its health care and mental hygiene workforce, and wants to reward them financially for their service. $1.2 billion in funding has been allocated for payment of bonuses to recruit, retain, and reward frontline health care workers meeting specified eligibility requirements. Beth Chiariello, PhD, OTR/L is NYSOTA's newly elected President-Elect. Beth's creativity, passion for occupational therapy, and long history of professional advocacy have helped shape both her career and the profession.
