Coaches Appreciation Day-May 16th
NYSPHSAA is proud to announce its first ever Coaches Appreciation Day will be held on Wednesday, May 16 th , a day student-athletes are encouraged to thank school approved coaches who have had an impact in their life or high school athletic career.

NYSPHSAA has offered student-athletes, school districts and fans several ideas to encourage participation in the 2018 NYSPHSAA Coaches Appreciation Day including:
  • Like and follow NYSPHSAA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Tag your photos, videos and messages with #NYSPHSAACoachesDay.
  • Instagram your favorite picture of your coach with your team on the medal stand after a big win.
  • Tweet the best advice you have ever received from a coach.
  • Post on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter a photo or video of the team surprising the coach with something he or she likes (coffee, candy, etc.)
  • Relive a moment where you witnessed your coach go above and beyond
  • Design your own image for NYSPHSAA Coach Appreciation Day and post it somewhere online.
  • Hug your coach (if you see them in-person)
  • Send a thank-you email or text to a coach of your current or former team
  • Post a message on the marquee of your school

NYSPHSAA has also established the hashtag #NYSPHSAACoachesDay for all social media posts for anyone who wants to share their favorite memories and stories throughout the day.
2018 Hall of Fame Class
On May 2nd, NYSPHSAA announced the inductees for its Class of 2018 Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame, launched in 2002, is sponsored by Pupil Benefits Plan, Inc. and Crown Awards.

The 2018 NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame Class will be inducted on Wednesday, July 25 th at 6 pm at High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, NY. Executive Committee Meeting Recap
The NYSPHSAA Executive Committee held it's quarterly meeting in Troy on Friday, May 4th. Here's a recap of some of the important action items that were voted on.

-Starting in 2018-19 the school complementary pass will now be good for a guest, in addition to the card holder

-Kristen Jadin has been promoted to Assistant Director at NYSPHSAA

-The committee approved a change to the representation rule, that now allows females who participate on teams only offered to males, they are now eligible for post season competition against females.

-Sections may now adopt waivers to the NFHS 8 man football rules

-Jen Simmons, Section I Executive Director, was appointed the State Cheerleading Coordinator for the 2018-19 school year.

-The Girls Volleyball regional rotation for 2018-19 was approved.

-The Following sites have been approved for NYSPHSAA Championship Events:
-Baseball State Championships, Binghamton, 2019-2021
-Football State Championships, Carrier Dome (Syracuse), 2019-2021
-Football East Semifinals, Middletown High School, 2019-2021
-Football West Semifinals, Cicero-North Syracuse High School, 2019 and 2021
-Football West Semifinals, Union-Endicott High School, 2020
Captains Club-April 2018
Did you catch the April edition of the NYSPHSAA Captains Club, presented by the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association?

Former Penfield High School basketball standout Margot Hetzke talks about her high school career, early success in college, and a series of injuries that ended her playing days. Margot is a true inspiration to current and former student-athletes.

The completion of the Participation Survey is mandatory for NYSPHSAA member schools .  This information is crucial to the NYSPHSAA, our sports committees and the NFHS.

There are positions open for the 2018-19 academic year on the NYSPHSAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The following positions are open:

Section I - 1 rising junior (male or female), 1 rising senior (male or female)
Section 2 - 1 rising junior (male)
Section III - 1 rising junior (male or female), 1 rising senior (male or female)
Section IV - 1 rising junior (female)
Section V - 1 rising junior (male)
Section VI - 1 rising junior (female)
Section VII - 1 rising junior (male)
Section VIII - 1 rising junior (male)
Section IX - 1 rising junior (male)
Section X - 1 rising junior (male or female), 1 rising senior (male or female)
Section XI - 1 rising junior (female)

Deadline to apply is Monday May 14

*Rising junior = Sophomore as of March 2018
*Rising senior = Junior as of March 2018
*Some Sections do not have any positions available due to the current juniors opting to remain on the committee for their senior year.
