Winter 2019 State Champions
The winter championships started January 26th with the wrestling dual meet championships, (results were recapped in the February edition of NYSPHSAA news) and concluded on March 17th with the Boys and Girls Basketball Championships.

Here a look at all the 2019 winter state champs:
2019 Wrestling Championships
The NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships were once again held at the Times Union Center in Albany on February 22-23.

Over the course of two days, 30 state champions were crowed in two divisions. Attendance was a near record high for the weekend.

2019 Skiing Championships
The NYSPHSAA Alpine and Nordic Skiing Championships took place at Gore Mountain on February 25-26.

For the first time there was a presenting sponsor of the skiing championships, Sports Page Ski and Patio was the official sponsor of the championship.

2019 Boys Swimming and Diving Championships
The 2019 NYSPHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Championships were once again held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Long Island on March 1-2.

2019 Gymnastics Championships
The NYSPHSAA Gymnastics Championships were held at Cold Spring Harbor High School on Saturday, March 2nd.

2019 Cheerleading Championships
The NYSPHSAA Cheerleading Championships were held Saturday, March 2 at the Rochester Institute of Technology. CheerSounds was the presenting sponsor of the 2019 event.

The five state champs for 2019 were:
D-I Large School: Sachem North
D-I Small School: Rocky Point
D-II Large School: Mount Sinai
D-II Small School: Lewiston Porter
Co-Ed: Webster Thomas

2019 Indoor Track and Field Championships
The NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships were held on Saturday, March 2 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

2019 Bowling Championships
The NYSPHSAA Boys and Girls Bowling Championships were held on March 8-10 at AMF Strike N Spare in Syracuse.

This was the first year of a new three day format of the tournament. For a look at the complete results click here
2019 Ice Hockey Championship
The NYSPHSAA Boys Ice Hockey Championships were held at the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo on March 9-10.

The 2019 state champions were:
Division One: Syracuse Cougars
Division Two: Skaneateles Lakers

2019 Boys Basketball Championships
The NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball Championships, presented by the American Dairy Association Northeast, were held March 15-17 at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.

The 2019 state champions were:
AA) West Genesee
A) Poughkeepsie
B) Glens Falls
C) Cooperstown
D) Harrisville

2019 Girls Basketball
The NYSPHSAA Girls Basketball Championships, presented by the American Dairy Association Northeast, were held March 15-17 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

The 2019 state champions were:
AA) Ossining
A) Pittsford Mendon
B) Irvington
C) Cambridge
D) Franklinville

Sportsmanship Promotion Survey Due by April 15th
The NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Promotion Survey is now available

The Sportsmanship Promotion Survey is designed to assess how schools are promoting positive sportsmanship within their athletic departments. This survey is a tool that can be used by athletic administrators to examine policies and procedures and that can be used to promote positive sportsmanship.

ALL SCHOOLS THAT COMPLETE THE SURVEY WILL RECEIVE A SPORTSMANSHIP CERTIFICATE. THE SPORTSMANSHIP COMMITTEE WILL THEN CHOOSE SCHOOLS FROM EACH SECTION TO RECEIVE A PLAQUE. THOSE APPLICATIONS WILL THEN BE EVALUATED TO DETERMINE A SPORTSMANSHIP PROMOTION BANNER AWARD WINNER! Deserving schools will be recognized by the NYSPHSAA and honored at the NYSPHSAA Central Committee Meeting.

The deadline to submit is Monday, April 15th.
Community Service Challenge
The Community Service Challenge for the winter 2019 was a huge success thanks to our partnership with Team Up 4 Community.

The winners will be selected by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in the coming weeks.

Winter 2019 Scholar-Athletes Announced
NYSPHSAA has announced the 2019 winter Scholar-Athlete teams and number of Scholar-Athlete individuals per school. This is the 27th year the NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Pupil Benefits Plan, Inc.

A total of 633 NYSPHSAA member schools submitted Scholar-Athlete information this season. This winter, 2,616 teams earned the Scholar-Athlete team award. A record-high 33,275 students achieved this milestone in the winter.

Free Hazing Prevention Course
For the 2018-19 school year, NYSPHSAA is proud to offer all its member schools a free hazing prevention course.

The course is presented by Hazing Prevention.org and AliveTek, in conjunction with NYSPHSAA.
