2018 Spring Championships
The 2018 Boys Tennis Championships were held at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing again this year.

Weather issues forced most of the tournament to be played indoors, but it didn't take away from the action.

Patrick Maloney of Oyster Bay won the Singles State Championship while the team of Charlie Levinson and Connor Aylett of Mamaroneck won the Doubles State Championship.

Once again the Girls Golf State Championship was contested at Bethpage State Park on Long Island. The Yellow Course was a true test of golfers abilities.

In the end, Melanie Green of Medina topped the field shooting a six under par 138 over the two day tournament.
Section I won the section team championship while Carmel High School won the first ever high school team championship.

Cornell University was the site for the 2018 Boys Golf Championships. The Robert Trent Jones Course has hosted the event every year since 1980.

Adam Xiao of Manhasset won the championship shooting a one over par 143 in the two day tournament. Section V won the team section championship.

The Outdoor Track and Field Championships returned to Cicero-North Syracuse in 2018.

Over 1,500 of the best track and field athletes competed in the two day championship.

The greater Binghamton area hosted the 2018 Baseball State Championships. Twenty of the best teams in the state played in the semifinals on Friday, June 8, with the winners playing in the finals on Saturday, June 9.

This years State Champs were:
AA) Massapequa
A) Queensbury
B) Center Moriches
C) Avon
D) Deposit/Hancock
Moreau Recreational Park in South Glens Falls hosted the 2018 Softball State Championships. A full day of softball action started at 9:00am on Saturday June 9, and went until the final state champ was crowned that night.

State Champs for 2018 were:
AA) Victor
A) Maine-Endwell
B) Ichabod Crane
C) Chautaqua Lake
D) Fort Ann
SUNY Cortland was the site for the Girls Lacrosse State Championships. Semifinals were played on Friday, June 8, and the finals were played on Saturday, June 9.

The 16 best teams in the state battled it out to see who would take home the state title.

The 2018 State Champs were:
A) Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)
B) Manhasset
C) Cold Spring Harbor
D) Mattituck-Southold
St. John Fisher College was once again the host of the Boys Lacrosse State Championships. Semifinals were played on Wednesday, June 6, with winners playing in the state title games on Saturday, June 9, in Pittsford.

2018 State Champs were:
A) Ward Melville
B) Garden City
C) Islip
D) Pleasantville
Captains Club-June 2018

Mike Messere has won more games than any lacrosse coach in the country. This past season was his last at West Genesee. We take a look at his life, career and impact he had on student-athletes in this edition of the Captains Club.

Spring 2018 Scholar-Athletes Announced
Scholar-Athlete teams and individuals were announced for the Spring 2018 season. This Spring, 2,355 teams received the Scholar-Athlete Team Award. Even more impressive, 38,034 student-athletes received an individual grade point average of 90.00 or above and have been recognized as Scholar-Athletes.

School of Excellence and Distinction Deadline
As a reminder, the School of Distinction and School of Excellence Applications are due by June 30, 2018.

The School of Distinction is awarded to schools who had 100% of their varsity programs qualify for and receive the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award during the 2017-2018 school year. Qualified is interpreted to mean teams having met all of the Scholar-Athlete Team Award program’s criteria (i.e. received a certificate), including having met the deadline date  to apply as set for each sport season.

The School of Excellence is awarded to schools who had 75% of their varsity programs qualify for and receive the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award during the 2017-2018 school year. Once again, qualified is interpreted to mean teams having met all of the Scholar-Athlete Team Award program’s criteria (i.e. received a certificate), including h aving met the deadline date  to apply as set for each sport season.

As a reminder, schools must SUBMIT AN APPLICATION to receive either award. Also, schools can only apply for either the School of Excellence OR the School of Distinction, NOT both. 

All "School of Distinction" and “School of Excellence” winners will be announced at the annual NYSPHSAA Central Committee meeting and published on the NYSPHSAA website.
