We’re Looking for You:

The TISM collects and manages invasive species data. They classify invasive species using New York State’s Tier Ranking System and use a variety of tools to prioritize areas for conservation. The TISM conducts scientific surveys and research, manages invasive species using mechanical, chemical, and biological means, records data, writes reports, and delivers educational programs. The TISM fosters community support, oversees multiple projects, sets deadlines and manages to completion. This description is not designed to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities required for this job.

 

What You’ll Bring:

·      Master's Degree in science related field and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·      Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.

·      Experience preparing reports of findings.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·      Certification as a New York State Commercial Pesticide Applicator (category 3A preferred)If the candidate is not certified at the time of hire, the candidate must obtain certification within two months of their hire date.

·      Demonstrated proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

·      Knowledge of Adirondack plant species and knowledge of current trends and practices in TIS prevention, monitoring, and management.

·      Three or more years of experience applying for federal, state, or local government permits and/or working with private landowners to manage lands.

·      Three or more years of experience managing contractors and seasonal staff, and doing adaptive management as conditions change on the ground.

·      Relationship building skills and ability to work closely with a variety of partners.

·      Experience giving public presentations on technical topics.

·      Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English.

·      Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

·      Strong knowledge of computer technology and common software applications, including advanced uses of Excel.

·      Attention to detail.

·      Ability to meet deadlines.
