NYSW Updates
NYW '05G's Win East Region ODP Tournament
The NYW 05G's ODP State Team won the East Region ODP Tournament Championship on Sunday, June 20th. They defeated the Virginia State Team by a score of 2-1 at the Chase Center, the multi-purpose training facility owned by the Philadelphia 76ers, in Wilmington, DE.

In semi-final play on Saturday, June 19th, NYW battled the NJ State Team to a 1-1 tie before advancing 4-2 on penalty kicks. Emily Hanrahan, Jailyn Parrotte and Wrianna Hudson calmly converted the first three NYW attempts. NJ kept pace until their third attempt sailed wide. NYW GK Catherine Apker proceeded to step up and bury the fourth NYW attempt and then fellow NYW GK Megan Fry secured their ticket into the championship final by saving NJ's fourth penalty kick attempt.

The NYW 05G's State Team was comprised of players from eight different clubs within the NYSWYSA footprint. The team went unbeaten through both the group and knockout stage of the tournament and was led by Head Coach, Nate Wiley (Head Women's Soccer Coach, SUNY Geneseo) and Assistant Coach, Brian McGrane (Head Women's Soccer Coach, SUNY Oswego).

Congrats Ladies and Coaches!!!

Referee Going Above and Beyond -
submitted on Facebook by Northstars Soccer Club
I’ve seen a lot in my 18 years of coaching. But last night was definitely a first. The team we were playing against had a goalie with no shoes. When the referee noticed he stopped the game and was talking to the player. He then proceeded to take his turf shoes off and give them to the player to wear. He officiated the rest of the game barefoot.

Thank you to referee Franco Vitale!

How Your Can Help Your Child During Tryouts
I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, success is when preparation meets opportunity. Well, the prep part of that should be on a regular basis throughout the entire season. If your child is having to change a lot of what they are doing in order to “prepare” for tryouts, then there is a much bigger issue at hand.
