Copan and Hagen

We have an unfortunate situation where many dogs are sitting in foster care for a longer period than others not just due to the normal trends with adoption but sometimes fosters are not as diligent about what they should be doing with their foster dogs. When fosters are posted, pictures that show personalities and tell stories are essential. Their biographies need to shine a light, on both their successes and their failures to create a balance for people to understand who they are, is so important. These two pieces – Pictures and Bios need to come from whom has the foster dog. Why? THEY KNOW the dog the best.

When you are a foster, communication is of the utmost importance, and we preach that we are a team. No one person does it all in rescue. If you have something you need or something you don't understand, come forward and discuss! Nobody knows everything. It is only on the day that you die that truly know the answers. It is OK to ask for help; however, this is not true of every foster. Those are the ones that cry wolf in the end but the only one that gets hurt is the dogs.

This brings me to Copan and Hagen, that came from a situation that is less than stellar. When all was said and done, we took in about five Cattle Dog Mixes over a year ago from the same shelter that had been dumped by a backyard breeder. Copan and Hagen are the last two that are still available. Why? Great Question.

Copan and Hagen went to what we thought would be a very great foster because she not only wanted to foster, but she owns a training facility. However, there was a lot here that was not done to our expectations. In addition, communication has been less than poor. These dogs really needed to know a “home life” instead they got what appeared to be a version of the continued “kennel life”. As for the Socialization skills, we finally, after two years of asking for photos; received some of the dogs from what we believed of them to be off her property. They look stressed and will need continued work.

Why do we have these dogs as a high need right now? Not only do we NEED to rescue them from a foster, but she's threatening to dump them, she no longer wants to work with them. Copan and Hagen deserve a true home where they can be dogs and learn not only the necessary ACD Skills but be happy and loved. Please take a look and reach out to us if you can help. Please open your hearts and your homes to these two boys that need just more time and love to acclimate into a home to know what it's like to be loved and not considered a piece of property.
