Changes to the AA Preamble
At the time, in 2020 General Service there was a proposed item on the agenda to change the language of the first sentence of the "AA Preamble." That proposal was voted on to be as follows: Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

One word was changed. It went from men and women to "people" to be gender neutral. The General Service Board approved the new revised AA Preamble. The Preamble was introduced in the June 1947 issue of the AA Grapevine magazine.

The change in the Preamble will have an ripple effect on groups. Some will go follow the change and some will have a group conscience and decide to either make or not make the change.

Question is how did this happen? It is all about service work. Does your group have a General Service Representative (GSR)? If not, why? This is how your group has a voice at these assemblies.
