Dear District 86 Community,
On Monday, June 29, Nancy Pollak informed me that she will be stepping down from her position on the District 86 Board of Education effective immediately because she is moving out of state.
While I am incredibly happy for my close friend and colleague, I am saddened by the loss of a trusted member of our team and important leader in our community. Nancy has been a dedicated and selfless public servant, particularly in the area of public education. In addition to her time on our board, she worked on the new Prospect school referendum in 2000 and assumed a number of different roles for various parent committees, organizations, and support groups. On behalf of the board, I want to thank Nancy for everything she has done for our district and wish her and Dale all the best as they embark on this exciting next chapter in their lives. I also want to thank Nancy’s children for always supporting her in her service.
Although replacing Nancy will not be easy, the process of filling this vacancy will begin immediately and be carried out in accordance with state law (
). Per the law, we must report the vacancy to the regional office of education in the next five days and fill it no more than 60 days after it occurs. While we have a policy that deals with board vacancies, it is currently out of alignment with the law, and is in the process of being updated in conjunction with the customization of our manual (
As we have done with previous vacancies, we will create an application that prospective candidates will need to fill out in order to be considered for the position. We will share that application with the community as soon as it is available. We will also use a variety of resources (e.g., email, social media, the district’s family of websites, etc.) to keep people updated on the status of our search for a new board member.
If you have questions about the search process, please email the board at
. In the meantime, I want to thank you for your time and attention to this message, and for your continued support of our schools and the students we serve.
