In case you missed it, Naphsis held its annual Business Meeting yesterday afternoon. A recording of the virtual event will be available on the Members Only Center later this week. In the meantime, here are the highlights – but please see the meeting materials for more detailed information. 


  1. Congratulations to Jeff Duncan (MI) who was elected by the Board of Directors to fill the President Elect position come June 1, 2023.
  2. The new Naphsis Brand is here! We will be implementing the brand across all collateral ASAP.
  3. If you haven’t signed your new EVVE amendment yet – PLEASE DO! Contact Valerie Acheampong for more information.
  4. If you pledged dollars towards STEVE Enhancements under the ELC grants and haven’t yet paid that invoice, PLEASE DO SO ASAP. Contact Stephanie N’Garsanet for more information.
  5. SSA has finally initiated negotiations with us for the EDR Contracts. The committee will be responding to the first communications by Monday of next week.
  6. Strategic Planning is underway! There will be many opportunities for you to get involved. For more information, please contact Kristin Simpson.

Naphsis April Accreditation Webinar


Please join Naphsis on April 17, 2023 at 3:00 ET to learn about VRHS accreditation. Krystal Colburn (AZ), Melissa Bird (IA) and Shawna Flax (SD) will discuss their experience going through the accreditation process. Annual PHAB Vital Records Health Statistics Unit Accreditation Training

 

Naphsis and the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) are offering the annual VRHS Accreditation Applicant training session in person on June 25, 2023 from 1- 5 pm CT in conjunction with NAPHSIS Annual Meeting.


This training is a required step in the accreditation process. Accreditation Coordinators from VRHS Units that plan to apply for VRHS accreditation between July 15, 2023 and July 15, 2024 are required to attend Applicant training before they can pursue accreditation. The training will consist of one 4-hour live session which includes a 30-minute break. A syllabus with detailed information about the training will be made available to VRHS Units that register.

2023 Vital Records 101 Training



It's a wrap. The 2023 Vital Records 101 training is now complete. The 2.5 day training took place in Santa FE, NM. 42 participants from 21 jurisdictions in attendance. The training is supported by the Vital Statistics Improvement Cooperative Agreement Naphsis has with NCHS ad is designed for staff who are new to their roles.


Attendees shared recent projects, how their offices were structured and gained knowledge on how other jurisdictions address similar issues and concerns. Please check out our attendee group photo on our Facebook page, along with other announcements and events. Special thanks go to the New Mexico vital records staff and their Bureau Chief, Michael Padilla, for giving us such a warm welcome and introducing us to the local culture including the most important question you’ll hear in New Mexico - “red or green?”

US Census Bureau | April 6, 2023 | 3:00 pm ET


On Monday, April 3, the U.S. Census Bureau will release a suite of 2010 Census demonstration data products that incorporate the final production settings chosen for both the 2020 Census Redistricting Data (P.L. 94-171) Summary File and Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (DHC). The release will include all files described in their January 27 newsletter. A webinar about the release will be hosted on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

Naphsis Systems Updates

Maine, Michigan, and North Dakota join SSA Marriage System


Naphsis is excited to announce that four more jurisdictions have joined the new SSA Marriage System. This brings the total number of jurisdictions to nine, with another 11 planned this calendar year. There are still opportunities to participate—please email systems@naphsis.org to find out how you can qualify for $75,000 upon successful connection and $7 per successful verification.

Missouri Joins EVVE FOD


Naphsis is happy to announce that Missouri is the newest participating jurisdiction to join EVVE Fact-Of-Death. Thank you to our colleagues in Missouri that have worked with Naphsis over the past several months to make this happen.

Newly Released Products Related To Maternal Mortality


On Thursday, March 16, NCHS released two products related to maternal mortality. The first is a Health E-Stats report entitled “Maternal Mortality Rates in the United States, 2021.” This report presents national maternal mortality rates for 2021 by age, race and Hispanic origin and can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/hestats.htm.


The second is a surveillance dashboard that presents monthly provisional numbers of maternal deaths. Updates to this dashboard will occur on a quarterly basis. The dashboard can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/provisional-maternal-deaths.htm

NAHDO's 3rd Annual Meeting and Networking Session | August 14-16, 2023 | Boston, MA

 

Following the successful model for in-person networking events over the past two years (Albuquerque and Seattle), NAHDO is hosting a set of meetings and workshops with topic-driven sessions designed to identify solutions to some of the current challenges facing health data organizations.
