The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26


Celebrating our graduates! I always think it is unfair to ask 17 and 18 year olds what they plan to 'be'. As church folks, what can we uniquely offer them as they transition to a new phase in their lives that emphasizes grace more? Jesus offers a blueprint for life in our passage, but it has nothing to do with what you do for a living... it has to do with seeing people in a different way, with showing mercy, with having faith in Jesus' power to bring healing.

God, help us to follow the blueprint Jesus gives as we move forward toward the future You have in store for us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

• God of mercy, you call us to a life filled with acts of mercy. Ground us in following Christ, that we might extend the mercy we receive.
• God of creation, all you have made is yours. Revive lands in need of healing and make us wise stewards of all you have given us to tend.
• God of the nations, you promise to deliver those who call on you. Bring an end to conflict, bigotry, and injustice in all their forms wherever they are found.
• God of comfort, you provide for those in need. Bring an end to addiction. Comfort people as they mourn. Provide tenderly for those in need.
• God of blessings, you send the Holy Spirit to provide varieties of gifts in the body of Christ. Accompany those who travel this summer, make our gatherings joyous, and grant us a spirit of hospitality and togetherness.
• God of life, we give you thanks for saints whose lives revealed your faithfulness. May remembering their faithfulness strengthen our own.

Trusting you receive all our prayers, we commend our spoken and unspoken prayers to you, O God, through Jesus our Savior. Amen.

While we are worshiping in Fellowship Hall, we need volunteers to welcome people into the Narthex. This will require opening and holding the door for people as they arrive, and staying in the Narthex for the duration of the service. Since we won't be preparing a meal at the church, we would like to cover some of Lazarus House's other urgent needs. Swedish Days is happening June 24-28 in Geneva. We need narthex volunteers to allow us to keep our bathrooms open through the festivities as well as volunteers for the Swedish Pancake Breakfast on June 27. Click HERE to sign up as a narthex host and HERE for the pancake breakfast.

Our annual Swedish pancake breakfast raises funds for GLC mission trips to Easter Kentucky! If you aren't available to help, please consider stopping by for some pancakes on the 27th or making a donation to our mission trip fund HERE.
