STATEMENT FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
REGARDING THE NEW ZEALAND MOSQUE TRAGEDY
Dear Natick Community:

It is with heavy heart that I write to you today—saddened by the horrific events that took place in New Zealand mosques yesterday. This violent action killed 49 people as they attended Friday prayer service and its live broadcast also traumatized many others.

We condemn these acts and stand up in support of our Muslim community members. These hate crimes cannot be tolerated and we join our community partners, in Natick Is United, as we seek to educate around these hateful actions and how we can work as a community to stop them.

My hope it for everyone to reach out to Muslim neighbors and friends to offer support. This simple act of connection by reaching out and acknowledging your care and concern is a powerful healer and demonstrates the strength and respect that is the foundation of the Natick community.

We have an opportunity to come together as a community this week on Thursday during the Arts Extravaganza at NHS 5-9 p.m. I hope that we can come together to support the arts, and be inspired (and healed) by the creative work of our children. The act of coming together around such positive events can be reassuring to us as a community.

That said, your individual outreach to Muslim neighbors and friends is important and models for our students what community living should be about.

Thinking of you all,

Anna
