Program’s Partnership Crosses Generations Before Year’s End

Youth served by PGR Foundation, Inc. show off their donated hand-decorated trees.

Despite the notoriety of 2020, it was also a year marked by especially rewarding partnerships for InterFaith Works’ One to One Program. The program, managed by the agency’s Senior Services staff, seeks to reduce social isolation for residents at nursing home and assisted living facilities. One of the most notable partnerships during the year, One to One’s collaboration with PGR Foundation, Inc., a non-profit, girl-mentoring organization, had a particularly newsworthy intergenerational impact.
Debra McClendon-Boddie, PGR’s founder and president, delivered table-top trees and supplies to the group’s members for this COVID-19 safe activity. The young volunteers then hand-decorated about 60 Christmas trees, which were gifted to residents at the Sedgwick Heights assisted living facility in Syracuse.
In connection with PGR’s contributions to the holiday effort, CNY Central televised a story during its evening newscast about the One to One Program’s partnership with volunteers from the Everson Museum. Revisit the story on the station’s website.

Lunch for First Responders Arrives as 'Love in Action'
Last year, sisters Sue and Lynn Renshaw demonstrated their "Love in Action" on behalf of Mission Hope Community in Camillus by delivering lunch to the Camillus Police Department and WAVES Ambulance crew. In another generous gesture, the sandwiches were ordered from Firehouse Subs, which meant a portion of the purchase price for lunch was donated to the local fire department, thus sharing even more love with the community's first responders.
