Join us in celebrating November as National Adoption Month
The National Adoption Center is excited to update you about how your support helps children and youth in foster care find permanent families.

The Center remains committed to supporting families, children and the systems that can make a difference in the way children grow up.

Wednesday's Child
Every week a child in foster care is featured on NBC television. Shantell was featured recently.

When you mee her  you can’t help but smile. Shantall is happy, friendly and laughs a lot. She is in 10th grade and loves school, especially reading and writing. Shantell has many friends, and loves fashion, music, and arts and crafts.

Her love of painting brought her to Busy Bees in Conshohocken, PA where she painted a butterfly canvas. NBC's Vai Sikahema and Shantell shared a lot of laughs, some at Vai’s expense, when his “butterfly” looked more like a bat in Shantell’s eyes! Shantell's future? She wants to become a nurse, get married, and have a family but first she wants to be adopted. Could you be Shantell’s forever family?

Cultural Event for Youth in Foster Care
Each year the National Adoption Center takes 20 youth in foster care on a day trip for a new cultural experience. This year they visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

The day began with a ferry ride from Liberty State Park to Ellis Island where they browsed the exhibits and learned about the many different people who sought refuge in America. Next, they boarded another ferry to Liberty Island and walked up the 192 steps to the pedestal of Lady Liberty. Afterward, everyone had lunch together.

The youth enjoyed and appreciated the experience and were able to make memories that will last a lifetime.
