Early Career Congenital CMV Research Award

In its third year, the National CMV Foundation is pleased to announce a
$10,000 award(s) to fund innovative research related to maternal or congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections
.
The goal of this award is to encourage
early career researchers
to pursue research on maternal or congenital CMV infections. The award can fund or be applied to projects in areas including public health, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, basic science, or vaccine development.
Eligibility:
Early career researchers including mentored pre- and post- doctoral trainees or junior faculty members who have not been a principal investigator (PI) on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant may apply for the award. Trainee applicants must provide a letter of support and a mentoring plan from the Mentor. Applications will be accepted from researchers in the United States and Canada.

Khaliah Fleming, MPH, MCHES
Executive Director
Khaliah is a results-driven certified health education specialist with international and national public health experience. With a background in chronic disease management and prevention, health disparities, health equity, and research partnership coordination, she has managed and led multiple education and outreach public health programs, teams, and initiatives abroad and within Florida. Her love of people, relationship building, public health, and professional development for an emerging cadre of public health professionals influence her work in many professional domains, including the Society for Public Health Education, Society for the Analysis of African American Public Health Issues, and the American Public Health Association.

Amanda Devereaux, RN, BSN
Program Director
Amanda graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2007. She has worked in public health for 10 years, most recently focusing on maternal child health. Amanda became passionate about eliminating cCMV when her daughter was born affected by the virus in 2015. She spearheaded the effort to successfully pass CMV legislation in her home state of Iowa in 2017. Last year, Amanda participated as a CMV Community Alliance Chair with the National CMV Foundation, and hosted a successful “Strides 4 CMV” Run/Walk/Roll in Minneapolis. She currently serves as Chair of the Congenital and Inherited Disorders Advisory Committee for the state of Iowa. Amanda lives in Des Moines with her husband Paul, and 2 children Atticus and Pippa.
