Greetings from CAAASA,

This season of isolation has also afforded us a period of reflection; time to focus and refocus our thoughts and energy on how we can better address the needs of the students for whom we advocate. As members of CAAASA, we know too well the crises in which we find ourselves. Paramount among them are numerous issues of inequity faced by our students.

For the last two years, CAAASA, EdTrust, Learning Policy Institute and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, has solicited like-minded statewide and national organizations to join us in a project to articulate a national agenda in public education. This coordinated effort, which has gained support from national education and civil rights organizations, has resulted in the formation of the National Coalition for Educational Equity (NCOEE). Through this initiative, chaired by Dr. Michele Bowers, our Board Member and Superintendent of the Lancaster School District, will bring together educators, community stakeholders and business leaders to develop and execute strategies to achieve educational equity for African American and other students of color throughout the country. Our initial report, with important background information and data, is available below. We look forward to working with you on this initiative. We are living in trying times, but we will prevail.

Remember: your vigilance is imperative!
