On May 5, 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187 establishing National Correctional Officers Week, declaring, “The professionalism, dedication and courage exhibited by these officers throughout the performance of these demanding and often conflicting roles deserve our utmost respect.”
During this week, we give recognition to our correctional officers. Whether municipal Police, Village Public Safety Officer, Village Police Officer, or State Trooper, these officers demonstrate integrity and strength in difficult and dangerous work environments. Correctional officers play a vital role in the criminal justice system and our state. As essential workers, these officers continue to keep our communities safe during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Please take a moment this week and thank a correctional officer in your community!
On behalf of the AMLJIA, Thank You!
