Hood College Wins National CyberWatch Center Innovations Award
Hood College, in Frederick, Baltimore, won the 2019 National CyberWatch Center’s Innovations in Cybersecurity Education award in the program development category. Its entry was a formal cyber pipeline that allows students to earn an associate degree in cybersecurity from Frederick Community College that transfers to a cybersecurity bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s University. They are then eligible to take courses for a bachelor’s and have courses waived to get into Hood’s master’s program.

Complete Cyber Games and Win Prizes
The National Cybersecurity Student Association is hosting five cyber games. Each week a new challenge will be presented and become increasingly harder. Once a challenge is solved, participants will receive a 50% membership discount code, a link to fill out a form and be entered into a raffle drawing each week. If participants complete all five weeks, they will be entered to win the main prize! The Student Association will offer two hints each week on Wednesday and Friday via its social media accounts. If anyone posts answers and/or extra hints on social media, they will be disqualified from all prizes.

Perceived Impact of Barriers to Retention on Women in Cybersecurity
Through the National Cybersecurity Student Association webcast, Dr. Carl Willis-Ford, senior principal solution architect for General Dynamics Information Technology, presented his research on the retention of women in the cybersecurity industry. The gender gap is significant with only 10 to 15% of women working in the field in the U.S. while they constitute half of the general workforce. He describes why this disparity exists and how women can recognize and manage the issues.

Full-Time Cyber Security Position
Richland College, in the Dallas area of Texas, has an opening for a full-time Cyber Security faculty position. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in digital forensics, information assurances or other related disciplines or an associate degree or higher and demonstrated competency in the teaching discipline and a demonstrated competency in the field other than teaching. One year of demonstrated teaching experience is required. Official transcripts will be required, and potential candidates will be subject to a criminal background and fingerprint check.
