2025 has presented dynamic changes in the global trade arena. NADEC is closely following these developments to assist exporters in developing market strategies and to advocate for a level playing field for our businesses in global markets. To learn more about these advancements, I hope you all will join us for the 2025 NADEC Annual Export Conference on May 19 & 20 at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme is “Navigating New Horizons: Strategies for Export Success in a Changing World.” The conference will emphasize the NADEC Public Policy Platform, adopted by our board in February 2025, which supports advancing the principles of America First Trade Policy—prioritizing national interest, sovereignty, and domestic prosperity.
Please make the commitment TODAY to join us on May 19 & 20 for this premier event that will bring together top government officials, industry leaders, and District Export Council members to discuss critical issues impacting U.S. exports, trade policy, and the role and impact of the DECs. This conference offers an unparalleled opportunity to showcase your commitment to advancing U.S. trade and to connect with influential stakeholders in the export community.
There are definite benefits and ways to help both your DEC and the NADEC. And that is to Sponsor the NADEC Annual Export Conference!

Exporter Agility Required in a Fast-Changing Trade Landscape
Dr. John Pournoor, Co-Chair NADEC Trade Policy Committee
Exporters today face a fast-moving trade environment shaped by evolving federal policy, global competition, and shifting demand. Staying competitive requires nimble decision-making and a commitment to market diversification.
Preparedness: Policy changes—such as updated tariffs, trade remedy enforcement, or new bilateral agreements—can quickly impact pricing, supply chains, and long-term contracts. Exporters must respond swiftly to remain viable, adjusting their logistics strategies, regulatory compliance, and customer outreach. When trade dynamics shift, those who adapt fastest are often best positioned to preserve and grow their global footprint. NADEC’s Trade Policy committee is tracking these changes and impacts via our Public Policy Platform.
Diversification: One example is in the agriculture sector, where shifts in trade policy prompted exporters to reorient shipments toward alternative markets. That kind of flexibility—being able to identify new buyers, understand regional compliance requirements, and tailor product offerings—applies across all sectors. To mitigate risks, many exporters are turning to regions with growing consumer demand, such as Southeast Asia, Latin America, and select African economies. Diversification reduces dependence on a single market and increases resilience to policy disruptions. NADEC and District Export Council’s (DECs) across the U.S. are organizing various programs to highlight these high potential markets especially for small and medium size businesses.
TA, Supply Chains & Digital: Exporters are also leveraging trade agreements (TA) to expand access and reduce tariff exposure. Others are strengthening supply chain visibility and investing in digital trade tools to manage risk and compliance more effectively.
Learn More in Washington, D.C. May 19.
To better understand how to navigate these complex developments, attend the NADEC Annual Export Conference on May 19 in Washington, D.C. Connect with trade leaders, explore new tools, and gain insights that can help your export small and medium size business continue to transform and thrive globally. Members of DECs from across the country will be there to learn and share.

DECs HELPING DECs
William Harazin
A recent phenomenon in the NADEC realm is the cooperation and coordination among DECs in identifying DEC challenges and jointly meeting those challenges with successful concrete results. A case in point is the cooperation, coordination and participation of a number of DEC members from various DECs across the US helping out the Puerto Rican DEC in bringing the “Building the Trade DNA” Initiative to Puerto Rican University students through a number of export webinars.

Grow Your Exports in Latin America
In Latin America, digital commerce is on the rise. In countries like Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Colombia, millions of consumers are increasingly relying on local websites and personalized digital strategies to guide their purchasing decisions. In Brazil specifically, having a localized online presence—from language to platform preferences—is no longer a competitive edge, but a necessity.
Exporters looking to succeed in this region must recognize that trust, cultural relevance, and digital accessibility are key to connecting with Latin American buyers. As these markets continue to grow, so does the need for companies to adapt their digital strategies to meet local expectations and behaviors.
