NOW IN EFFECT
Proof of Vaccination Requirement in Select Settings
Effective September 22, 2021, Ontarians now need to be fully vaccinated and provide their proof of vaccination along with photo ID to access certain public settings and facilities. This approach focuses on higher-risk indoor public settings where face coverings cannot always be worn. These requirements will not apply to settings where people receive medical care, food from grocery stores, medical supplies and the like. Ontarians can print or download their vaccination receipt from the provincial booking portal.

On September 30, the Ottawa Board of Trade will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. OBoT will be closing our office in an effort to recognize and commemorate the history and ongoing legacy of residential schools.
We believe the business community has an important role to play in reconciliation. OBoT encourages businesses to use this day to listen, learn, and reflect on the history of Indigenous communities and the ongoing legacy of residential schools.
For those who need support, a national Residential School Survivor Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week: 1-866-925-4419. For non-Indigenous people, Crisis Services Canada is available to help: 1-833-456-4566.
These National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Resources are meant to facilitate ongoing education and reflection on the history and ongoing legacy of Canada’s residential school system. Included are resources that provide support for Indigenous peoples and residential school survivors across Canada.

EXPERT TIP!
Legislation was passed by the federal government in June that recognizes September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is not a provincial public holiday; however, it is a paid day off for federal workers and employees in federally regulated workplaces. Here is a list of federally regulated workplaces.
Since this is not a recognized statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act, 2000, provincially regulated employers may choose to offer employees a day off with pay as a ‘greater benefit’. Alternatively, employers might encourage their employees to take some time on September 30th for respectful commemoration and reflection.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation has been created to give everyone an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools, which more than 150,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit children were forced to attend between the 1870s and 1997.
