Dear All,

After Alex Pretti's killing on Saturday, two things became painfully clear about the Trump administration and ICE. First, if ICE agents were willing to kill a White American citizen—in broad daylight--while wearing body cams—with multiple witnesses, several of whom were taking videos--then they must not fear any accountability for their actions. And, we must ask: what happens when there aren't witnesses, and when the victims are non-White and non-citizens?

Second, the Trump administration's willingness to lie on camera, and double down on those lies—even when videos prove they are lying—makes it impossible to trust anything they say.

These realities were already clear to most of us, but what changed this weekend is that independents and some Republicans have begun to call them out publicly.

And, one more thing became clear: The nonviolent resistance movement—in Minneapolis and across the country—is effective. Without observers, the country wouldn't know the truth of what happened at 9am in Minneapolis; we would have to trust the government's word that Pretti was a domestic terrorist who was brandishing a weapon and threatening federal agents. Without millions of people sharing their outrage on social media, this story wouldn't have gotten the traction it did. Without thousands of Minnesotans braving the cold during their many protests, we wouldn't have hope that the average American wants a change from the brutal tactics of the Trump government.

This movement is powerful because it shows that Americans from all walks of life are willing to stand united to protect a democracy that works for all. Thank you for your role in it—and read on to see ways you can be involved this week.

Eyes on ICE Training and Actions

Over 100,000 people registered for Indivisible's online Eyes on ICE training on Monday. If you missed it, here are some immediate actions you can take:

• Share the recording of last night’s training with your community. It’s important that everyone has the information and the tools to exercise their rights in this moment. 
• Send a message to Congress through the ACLU website—emphasizing that Congress MUST demand an end to these reckless immigration raids, and oppose any bill that would add to ICE's already massive budget—including the most recent appropriations bill.
• Call your senators now and say that they must push for an appropriations bill that puts serious restrictions on ICE and does not add a penny more to its already bloated budget. Get connected through Indivisible or through 5 Calls
• Use the ACLU’s We The People Activist Toolkit. This toolkit is designed to help you take action and defend your community and your rights. The time to act is now. 
• Support the Communities Not Cages campaign, by the Detention Watch Network, by signing their petition and spreading the word.
• Share the next Eyes on ICE: Document and Record Training taking place on Thursday, February 5th, 2026 at 8p.

Guiding Kids Through Hard News

How do we help the children in our lives understand and process the violence and cruelty that we ourselves find hard to handle? How should we talk—or choose not to talk—about what they may be hearing or seeing in the news? And at what age is it appropriate to discuss these issues?
