Engage - Act - Effect Change

Facebook            Instagram            Web            Email

Dear All,

This week we observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day—not just to honor his memory, but to re-commit to engaging in the work of building and sustaining a just and inclusive democracy. Dr. King warned about dangers to democracy, including the erosion of justice, truth, and accountability. He believed that democracy requires constant participation, and that choosing not to act in the face of injustice is still a decision.

King's vision of a more just, equitable, and inclusive nation stands in stark contrast to the politics we are seeing now. Trump’s movement is built on division, fear, and the normalization of cruelty—toward immigrants, political opponents, and everyday Americans who stand against him. Where King called us toward a "beloved community," Trump thrives on grievance and exclusion. Where King insisted that power must serve the common good, Trump uses power to punish, intimidate, and enrich the few.

Dr. King reminded us that progress is not inevitable—it is made by ordinary people who decide to show up, again and again, even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. That is why protest matters, and why civic engagement matters. And that is why we continue to work together—through a shared, nonviolent commitment to democracy.

Read on for ways you can honor Dr. King's legacy and be involved this week.

Our next in-person workshop:

Truth Brigade Training

Presenter: Vanessa Linsey

When: Monday January 26, 2026

Where: Winchester Public Library, Large Meeting Room

Time: 6p-7:30p

Professional mediator Vanessa Linsey headlines Indivisible Winchester's speaker series on January 26th with a lively, interactive communication workshop. In this 90-minute session inspired by Indivisible's “Truth Brigade,” attendees will learn positive approaches to political conversation at a time of unprecedented polarization and disinformation. Participants will understand how to recognize disinformation, when to engage (and when NOT to), and what they can do to change the dynamic through truthful, firm, and friendly conversation tactics. Attendees may role-play de-escalation, practice finding common ground, focus on fact sharing, experiment with “stop and think” questions, and try drafting social media comments. Staying composed during rapid response moments is easier said than done, and this hands-on session will prepare attendees to communicate effectively and positively. Space is limited and confirmations will be required before the event.

About the presenter:

Vanessa is a Cornell-trained family mediator who has logged many thousands of hours facilitating interpersonal conflict. Her engaging communication workshops feature mindfulness-based approaches to mutual understanding. Vanessa is a mother of several and author of a prescriptive memoir on mindfulness.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend, and cancel your RSVP if your plans change. Since this is an interactive workshop, we need to be sure that we are not under or over subscribed. Confirmations will be required before the event. We appreciate your understanding.

**Please Note: This is a 90 minute program**

If the RSVP link indicates that the program is full, please email us at IndivisibleWin@gmail.com to request placement on the waitlist. At our past programs, we have been able to invite the waitlist to join us.

National Day of Solidarity with Minnesota

Take action on Friday, January 23 in solidarity by organizing or attending a non-violent solidarity event, demanding corporations stand up to ICE, and calling on Congress to act now to rein in ICE.

Attend a solidarity event. Show your solidarity with the activists in Minnesota by organizing a demonstration or protest meant to draw attention to how the Trump regime is using ICE to terrorize our communities. Search for events HERE.

Demand corporations stand with us and stand up to ICE. Join organizers in Minnesota and national partners to pressure Minnesota-based corporations including Target (ICE has conducted operations in its stores), Hilton (houses ICE agents), Enterprise (rents cars to ICE), Home Depot, and Delta to show up for our communities and stand up to ICE. Call or email each corporation to demand they take action to rein ICE out of our communities NOW. Links available HERE.

Demand Congress act now to rein in ICE. Call or write your legislators to oppose the current DHS funding bill unless it strengthens restrictions on ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to conduct dragnet arrest operations and target people based on their race, language or accent--and unless it ends Border Patrol deployment to our cities. Links available HERE.

Tell Congress to rein in ICE now

A simple form (taking less than a minute) that will send a pre-written message to your legislators. There is a chance to add your own additional comments if you choose.

A broad coalition of groups across the country, including Indivisible, is demanding that Congress answer our call to get ICE Out For Good.

This coalition is specifically demanding that Members of Congress oppose any appropriations bill that includes increased funding for ICE or Border Patrol, and refuse to vote for any funding bill for DHS unless certain criteria are met.

Call your Representative to stop Trump's War in Venezuela

The Trump administration is disregarding national sovereignty and forcing a regime change--all without authorization from Congress and without citing evidence of a legitimate threat to the United States. The Constitution states clearly that war powers belong to Congress, not the White House. Call your representative to stand up to Trump.
