3rd Annual PeaceMakers Teen Expo
Lock 3 Thursday, August 18, 6-9 p.m.The Akron PeaceMakers, the Mayor's anti-crime, youth program - and the City's premiere youth volunteer group - is celebrating their 3rd Annual Teen Expo. There will be music, dancing and prizes; and, exhibitors will provide youth with information on education, health, safety and volunteer opportunities in the Greater Akron area. 2nd Annual Summit for Kids

6th Annual National Hamburger Festival
Saturday, August 20, 2011 Noon-11 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 Noon-7 p.m. Burger-masters from around the Midwest will turn out with tongs in hand to flip burgers for the 6th Annual National Festival in Downtown Akron. The event opens Saturday, August 20 to the music of Changes in Latitudes: America's Premier Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band, and continues Sunday, August 21 with music from Lawless. To accompany the story of how America's favorite sandwich was founded by two Akron brothers, Frank and Charles Menches in 1885, is a classic car demonstration on Sunday! AkRun 5K and Pub Crawl
Start and finish in the lot behind the AES Building in Downtown Saturday, August 20, 5 p.m. Torchbearers is gearing up for its 5th annual AkRun and Crawl event! Click here for race registration. Afterwards, the pub crawl will kick off with food and drink specials at local restaurants and bars, all located in Downtown Akron. Proceeds of this event will benefit Torchbearers, Downtown Akron Partnership Junior Board and ArtCetera. Volunteers are needed to assist with details on the day of the event. Flora Akron Art Museum Through Saturday, October 22 Since the Garden of Eden, humans have been seduced by plants. Around 25 works, all drawn from the collection of the Akron Art Museum, will survey the different approaches photographers have used to depict the plant world. Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Ohio Akron Art Museum Through Saturday, October 29 The remarkable story of Dorothy and Herbert Vogel has become the stuff of lore. A Manhattan postal clerk and a reference librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library, the couple began collecting art shortly after marrying in 1962. Akron's Vogel collection includes paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture by 26 artists. |
