National Health Center Week Celebration

Last week's observance of the annual National Health Center Week promoted public awareness of Community Health Centers and our commitment to makinge high-quality, affordable care available to everyone. Each year, East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) assists 31,000 East Bay residents to improve their health and well-being by providing access to a range of health and human services. As the needs and challenges of the community continue to change, we at EBCAP remain determined to do all we can to serve and support our patients, and the community.

With six Community Health Centers and three Recovery Centers, East Bay Community Action Program is committed to improving access to care as well as providing the best care possible to all our patients. Our dedicated healthcare teams serve more than 12,000 individuals annually --- providing them with vital medical, behavioral health, dental care, and recovery services.

Cancer Screening Event

On August 3, EBCAP’s Director of Nursing, Bettina Cullinane, represented our team at Brown University Health’s Cancer Screening Awareness Day, held at Farm Fresh RI in Providence.

The event was organized by high school students participating in Brown’s Future Gen Cancer Scholars summer program, which is a dynamic initiative that engages 30 students from Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls in hands-on learning alongside physicians and cancer researchers.

The day focused on educating the community about cancer prevention, research, early detection, and providing valuable resources.

EBCAP Staff Making a Difference in the Community

Congratulations to Janine Petracca Fonseca, EBCAP’s Assistant Program Manager of Behavioral Health’s Integrated Health Home Team! Janine was among eight honorees who received the Rhode Island Health Center Association’s (RIHCA) 2025 Health Center Beacon Award at an awards presentation held August 7th at Roger Williams Park Casino. Each year, in recognition of National Health Center Week, RIHCA honors health center employees who are beacons of strength, service, and care to their colleagues and health center patients.

According to Amy Maguire, VP of Behavioral Health Services at EBCAP, Janine always gives 110 percent whether it’s serving EBCAP’s more acute clients with serious mental illness or fostering a supportive work environment during challenging times. With a positive attitude and a smile, Janine consistently provides excellent care to her clients and is a consummate team leader. Janine’s dedication to community health extends to her professional pursuits as well -- having recently enrolled in an MSW graduate school program. Devoted, compassionate, and caring, Janine is a proud reflection of EBCAP’s values and mission.

State Senator Visits EBCAP's Health Center

On Thursday, August 7th, we were pleased to provide a tour of our East Providence location and Health Center to Senator Pamela J. Lauria.  Senator Lauria, who serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services and represents District 32 -Barrington, Bristol, and East Providence, graciously accepted our invitation to visit during National Health Center Week.

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month

EBCAP’s WIC Program serves babies and children up to the age of five, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and new mothers. WIC helps children be the healthiest they can be, have better diets and growth rates, and be better prepared for school. Our WIC program also helps pregnant women and new mothers experience healthy pregnancies and raise healthy babies with useful breastfeeding and infant feeding advice.
