National Mechanics Day is this
Saturday, June 12th!
Thank you to all of our talented mechanics for the hard work you do, day in and day out!
Congrats, Aaron!
May Good Catch Winner of the Month!
Aaron Vice spotted suspicious material during an interior demolition, which turned out to be asbestos pipe insulation. If this material had not been identified, the crew would have been exposed to asbestos fibers.

What made this discovery even more impressive was the fact that the asbestos was in an area that was hidden from the abatement contractor who had already performed abatement in the building.

After Aaron's discovery, we contacted the abatement contractor to come back and remove the material.

Aaron identified this material using the knowledge he had obtained from the Lead and Asbestos training that Casella Construction had sent the crew to last year.
Thank you, Aaron! We are so grateful for your attentiveness. Great job!

Throwback Thursday!
Diamond Run Mall
Chris Kallen, driving truck 233 back in 1993, while the Diamond Run Mall was being built!

Unit 233, a 1987 R-Model Mack with 55 rears, is still active today - at 34 years old! - as a water truck (now truck 2233). 28 years after this photo was taken, Chris traded in his Casella Blue Mack for a Casella White Kenworth T800.

As Chris said “This is a real truck, they don’t make them like that anymore."

Chris is right: in the background you can see the Kue Ken crusher - our primary crusher, which still produces every day at the Clarendon Quarry.
Thank you for sharing, Chris!

Stuck in Vermont
Founders Hall Project Profiled
"Stuck in Vermont," the bi-weekly video series featured in "Seven Days," produced a behind-the-scenes look at the Founders Hall demolition project.

Our own Charlie Wadleigh and Aaron Vice were interviewed for the piece and did a great job illustrating the complexities involved in preserving materials from the building. You can watch the entire video below.
Nice Hollywood debut, Charlie and Aaron!
Thanks for representing us so well!

Safety Topic: Backing Safety
According to the National Safety Council, backing accidents cause 500 deaths and 15,000 injuries per year.

Increased blind spots put drivers and operators at a higher risk for error which can result in damage, injury and even fatalities of ground personnel.
Please keep in mind these tips when backing:
  • The single best way to prevent backing-related incidents is to eliminate backing as much as possible.
  • If you need to back up after being in a fixed position, complete a walk-around of your vehicle. This allows you to be aware of what is in your blind spots prior to making a move.
  • Use a spotter when appropriate. If backing is necessary and there are hazards such as other ground personnel or fixed objects in the area, then a spotter may be necessary.
  • Mark fixed objects so they are more visible to those operating a motor vehicle or heavy equipment in a work area.
  • Place protective barricades to protect critical or expensive equipment from struck-by incidents.
Thank you for keeping an eye out for each other!
