Charlotte Trivia

The square at the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets features four historical statues representing commerce, transportation, industry, and the future. This location is also the spot where Thomas Polk supposedly read the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence on May 20, 1775 (a full year before the national Declaration of Independence). Whether this happened, or even if the "Meck Dec" existed, has been hotly debated.
