Bear in Mind

Babcock Residents,

Happy Holidays! I am excited to meet each of your snowbirds, as you make your way down from the cold to enjoy the palm trees and sun!

As a reminder, we have limited HOA hours for the season. This will allow the Management team to assist you better with all your HOA needs in person and allow us to complete our daily duties. We will need to strictly follow the following hours, if you need assistance outside of these hours, please contact us to schedule an appointment.

Monday-Wednesday-Friday 9am-2pm

Tuesday-Thursday 11am-4:30pm

If you have not received your amenity access card, please see Julie Brooks at the Tennis Pro Shop Monday-Friday 1pm-4pm. If you are a new tenant or homeowner, you will need to contact the HOA office prior to ensure you are in our system, as Julie is unable to add you to the system. As Julie also works in the Tennis Pro Shop during the morning, she will not be able to assist in processing amenity cards outside of these hours.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation,

Melissa Azbell, LCAM

Community Association Manager

Lifestyle

Dear Babcock National Residents,

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the wonderful time I have had as your Lifestyle Director. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know most of you and working with such a fantastic community. Babcock National will always hold a special place in my heart.

I have enjoyed every event and activity that we have shared together, and I will cherish the memories forever. I am grateful for the support and encouragement that I have received throughout my time here. Your kind words and messages have touched my heart and will always be remembered.

As my family and I move out of state, I am confident that God has a wonderful opportunity awaiting us. However, I will miss Babcock National dearly. Please know that I will always cherish the memories and the friendships that I have made here.

Once again, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your community. It has been an honor to serve as your Lifestyle Director.

Sincerely,

Loraine Welch

Recipe Of The Week

Get ready to add some festive fun to your holiday baking with these delicious candy cane cookies! This simple recipe uses peppermint-flavored sugar cookie dough, which is twisted together to create the iconic candy cane shape. These cookies not only look amazing but taste incredible too! Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1½ teaspoons pure peppermint extract
  • 1¼ teaspoons clear vanilla flavoring
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon red squeeze gel color

Instructions:

  • Using a stand mixer or a hand mixer on medium-high speed, cream the unsalted butter for 1½ to 2 minutes in a large bowl.
  • Reduce the mixing speed to low, and add the granulated sugar, cream of tartar, and heavy cream. Increase the mixing speed to medium speed and continue to mix for 2 to 3 minutes or until the butter mixture is fluffy.
  • Reduce the mixing speed to low and add the egg. Mix until well incorporated.
  • Add the peppermint extract and clear vanilla flavoring.
  • Keeping the mixer speed low, slowly add the baking powder and all-purpose flour ½ cup at a time. Continue mixing just until the flour is well incorporated and no visible streaks of flour are showing.
  • Divide the cookie dough into 2 equal dough balls. Return 1 dough ball to the mixing bowl to be colored red. Cover the dough ball that is to be the white part of the candy cane cookie and place it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • Add the ½ teaspoon red gel color to the dough that is left in the mixing bowl. Using the mixer on low speed, mix the red coloring into the dough until it has a uniform color and no white streaks are visible.
  • Place the red dough in a medium-sized bowl and cover the red dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Just before removing the chilled dough balls from the refrigerator, preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Split the red and white dough in half, leaving half of each color in the refrigerator.
  • Cover your counter or a cutting board with a sheet of parchment paper. This is to keep from staining the counter or cutting board red.
  • Using a ½ tablespoon measuring spoon, scoop out two dough balls, one from the white and one from the red. Roll each into a tight round ball. Put the dough balls back in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.
  • Use your hand to roll the red and white dough balls into 5-inch long ropes. It is very important that your hands stay cool while you are rolling the ropes.
  • Lightly press the bottoms of the 2 ropes together. Carefully and with light pressure, twist the ropes together. Be sure to keep the ropes rounded and do not flatten them out.
  • Place the twisted rope onto the prepared baking sheet and curve the rope tops into the candy cane shape. Repeat the dough ball and twisting process with the remaining dough. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
  • Bake cookies for 7 minutes.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for 10 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool.
  • Take the other ½ of the red and white dough out of the refrigerator and repeat steps 12 through 17.

Notes:

  • Don't skip chilling the dough, as this will help minimize the spread of the cookies while baking and preserve the candy cane shape.
  • This dough is much easier to work with when chilled. If you are finding it tricky to work with, pop it in the fridge to cool down for a bit before continuing.
  • Oven temperatures vary and may need to be recalibrated periodically to ensure they are accurate. Make sure to keep a close eye on your cookies as the suggested baking time approaches.

Golf Association

Good Afternoon,

Do you struggle to take your game from the range to the course? When warming up for the round you should play a few holes on the range. Pick a hole you can feel confident about, visualize, and hit the tee shot. Then select the club that you think you would hit for your second shot and play that shot. This game will help with feeling comfortable for the day and build confidence. Make sure you follow the same pre-shot routine on the course to make the practice feel the same as game time. This will help with first-tee nerves and also have your body in swing mode before taking a few holes to be warmed up.

Thank you,

Racquet Sports

Babcock National Residents,

With our programs growing quickly, we want to make sure your Racquet Sports needs are being met. We currently offer round robins and clinics in the mornings, as well as clinics and social play options in the evenings. In the coming weeks, we will announce some new competitive play options within our racquet sports community, as well as external competitive play options through leagues. I am still gauging the interest in playing league tennis and pickleball, so if you are interested in playing league in either pickleball or tennis please contact me via email. Keep in mind playing league does require traveling to other Fort Myers and Punta Gorda clubs to compete. For tennis, we are looking at leagues for 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 teams. As we do not know the current levels of our pickleball membership I cannot commit to any leagues as of right now. If you have played pickleball league please let me know what level you have been playing.

Our pickleball courts are not yet open, but we are hopeful they will be opening soon. We do not have an opening day confirmed yet, but the moment we do I will make sure an announcement is sent out.

If you have any questions please either send me an email, or come by the Racquet Sports Pro Shop so we can assist you.

Thanks,

Dylan, Julie, Alonzo, Nancy, and Zach

DIY

Looking for a festive and easy-to-make decoration for the holidays? Look no further than this DIY candy cane wreath made from burlap! With just a few simple steps, you can create a beautiful wreath that will add a touch of charm to your home this Christmas. Hang it on your front door or use it to spruce up your living room or dining area. This wreath is the perfect addition to your holiday decor. Follow our step-by-step instructions and create your own DIY candy cane wreath today!

SUPPLIES:

  • Candy cane metal wreath frame
  • Red burlap ribbon (10 yards is plenty)
  • White burlap ribbon (10 yards is plenty)
  • Floral wire
  • Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Start the candy cane wreath with either white or red. I chose to start with white.
  • Cut a length of floral wire and put it through the end of the burlap ribbon. Then gather up the burlap and twist.
  • Anchor the end of the burlap to the candy cane wreath form. I started on the long end of the form.
  • Come up from the back side of the form and create a bubble in each of the three openings. The size of your bubbles isagain completely up to you, however, the larger bubbles will take more ribbon.
  • Once you have reached the opposite side, twist the ribbon several times on the back before coming up through the first hole again.
  • Since we are creating stripes at an angle, we are NOT going to come up through that first hole again. For the second run of burlap ribbon, we are going to only go through the last two holes leaving the first hole empty.
  • Now we will need to go through that last hole again to create an angle. This will be so that there is one bubble in the first opening, two in the second, and three in the third. However, you don’t want to go through the third opening a second time without securing your burlap ribbon. Use another piece of floral wire to secure the ribbon before going through the opening with another bubble. This only has to be done for this first run and for the last!
  • Now we have a stripe of white! Leave the roll of ribbon attached and do not cut. Add the red ribbon with floral wire in the same manner as you did the white above.
  • This time, however, you are going to create three bubbles in each of the openings. Because we created an angle with the white, rows after that will be at an angle as well.
  • Continue by putting up a bubble of ribbon in each opening across the wreath form. Twist the ribbon several times, go up through the first opening again, and create your next row.
  • Repeat until you have a stripe of color that is three bubbles wide. Remember to not cut your ribbon after each row. When you are ready for the next color, twist it a few times on the back of the wreath and take it up through your next opening.
  • You will continue to repeat this process for the entire candy cane wreath form.
  • When you get to the end of the wreath, cut your burlap ribbon and use floral wire to secure it to the wreath. The last stripe of color will also be at an angle and you will have to do it similar to your first stripe of color above.

NOTES:

If you have to join two spools of ribbon, use a piece of floral wire to tie them together and then tie it to the wreath form.
