National Newsletter - July 2016

I've always considered myself a pretty practical person.  I was raised to work hard, be kind to others, and have faith.  These values have served me well and I've rarely questioned them.  I put more stock in setting goals and working my plan than "wishing and hoping" things would turn out okay.  But in the past month, four different people have mentioned the concept of "setting intentions" to me and I came across this article on the same topic.  Is there something to putting your intentions out there to help you get what you want and need in your life?

I don't know if I have the answer to that question but it's worth checking out and maybe even giving it a try.  Click here to read Setting Goals Isn't Enough: Setting Daily Intentions Will Change Your Life.

Summer is a time to recharge, change gears, rethink your goals and priorities (set new intentions?) and say thank you to those who have enriched our lives.  I am grateful to our volunteers for all they offer on behalf of TTN.  We would be nowhere our Board of Directors who not only provide support but dig in and deliver the goods.  And I'm proud of our Staff who enthusiastically learn and do their best every day to support our members.

My best to all of you.  Happy Summer!

Introducing On Resilience: The Opening Workshop and The Conversation Series

On September 10, 2016, TTN will launch its newest Signature Program which consists of an Opening Workshop followed six Conversations designed to Increase our Personal Resilience.  The launch will be in Washington DC.

As we age, change is a constant.  Because of life goals and aspirations continue to evolve, resilience is key to our overall well-being.

The Workshop and Conversations are facilitated by TTN members (and program developers) Barbara Beizer and Nancy Reller.

For more information on the program, click here.  From there, you will be taken to the event registration page(s).
Chapter Leaders Who Made a Difference!

Leading a chapter is both a challenge and its own reward.  After two years in the position of Chair of their respective chapters, Eileen Kobrin (New York) and Roberta Reed (Washington, DC) are passing the baton to new volunteers.  These women have had an impact on TTN and our members and we are grateful for their service.

Stepping into the role in New York is Barbara Alpern who served as Vice-Chair for the past year.  In Washington, DC, a core committee consisting of Amy Kotkin, Mariann Zylstra and Barbara Beizer will be engaging with members to find new volunteers to carry the chapter forward.

Thank you!
Geri Brown
Thank you, Geri!

While we'll be sad to see Geri leave TTN at the end of July, I couldn't be more proud of what she has done for TTN during her time with us.  Some of Geri's accomplishments include:
  • Creating a very successful Author's Page, making it a true benefit for our members who have written great books.
  • Engaged numerous writers around the country to compose stories about our members, crafted press releases, and written articles for and about TTN;
  • Increasing the number of likes and followers via social media;
  • Published our Discover and Impact newsletters, sharing the good news of our member activities in their communities.
  • Provided training to chapter marketers on Facebook; Distributed the weekly New Member Report; Helped develop the Transition Resource Center, etc., etc., etc.
What's really exciting is that Geri is going to take all of this experience with her as she commits full time to her growing production and development business in the performing arts.

Geri's last day will be July 31, so please make sure to thank her and wish her tons of success in her future. (  geri.brown@thetransitionnetwork.org)  Thanks, Geri!
BITS AND PIECES
Come to the Conference!

I mentioned last month that TTN would be well represented as session presenters at the upcoming Positive Aging Conference in Washington DC.  This includes several TTN members who will be offering workshops on topics related to their own personal interests.

This conference is scheduled for August 26 and 27 at the Capital Hilton in Washington DC.  It offers many seminars that may be of of interest to you.  Click here to see all the Conference details.
