Incentive Point Opportunity:

Chesapeake Housing Mission

We are continuing to lend support to Chesapeake Housing Mission and we need your help!

Chesapeake Housing Mission is a non-profit organization that provides vital home repair to families in the Chesapeake Region of Maryland. This is a wonderful way to help those most vulnerable members of our community and earn incentive points. We need approximately 15 volunteers for this project on Friday, June 16, from 8:00am until approximately 2:00pm.

Construction skills and tools are not required. They will teach you everything you need to know and provide all equipment, resources and tools on the day of the project.

About this project:

We are helping Mrs. Rosalee, a beautiful 84-year-old breast cancer survivor residing in Pocomoke City. She is a mother of four (including three adopted children,) a grandmother of 20 and is one of 22 siblings!

Mrs. Rosalee struggles with falling and uses a walker. "Most times, I need to ride on my scooter to get around. When I go in and out of my home, I hit the door threshold and it throws me out of my chair."

Her son is residing with her and is wheelchair-bound, and her husband is wheelchair-bound as well. We will not be building a ramp for just one person to use - it will be for the whole family!

New Direction Non-Surgical

Weight Loss Program

Obesity is a major health risk that is serious and costly. According to the CDC, more than three in five Americans are overweight. One-third of those overweight are considered obese. Obesity related conditions include heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Like other chronic diseases, obesity requires responsible, comprehensive treatment, including ongoing care.

A Non-Surgical Option for Weight Loss

The Atlantic General Bariatric Center New Direction Medical Weight Loss Program provides the treatment needed to achieve long term success. The goal is to help our patients achieve permanent weight loss through lifelong changes in dietary, behavioral, and activity patterns.

We provide:

Customized meal plans tailored to each individual’s weight loss goals: These plans will be supervised by a nurse practitioner and dietitian (click here to view the menu of healthy, tasty foods/drinks. The Atlantic General insurance plan covers up to $750 worth of meals per year.)

Education: Information and guidance will be provided by our nurse practitioner and dietitian, and at times by a certified fitness instructor about health, nutrition, exercise and positive behaviors.

Ongoing medical oversight: There will be monthly weight and blood pressure monitoring with periodic lab tests and EKGs.

Support: We will offer weekly professional and peer group support and education to help form new eating and exercise habits that promote weight management skills.

Whether you want to lose a lot of weight or those last 10 pounds, we can help. Click here to get started. For more information, call Atlantic General Bariatric Center at (410) 641-9568.

Happy National Nursing Assistant Week!

We want to recognize and extend our sincere appreciation to our certified nursing assistants, nurse technicians, and medical office assistants as we celebrate National Nursing Assistant week from June 15 - June 21. Certified nursing assistants, nurse technicians, and medical office assistants promote the care and comfort that leads to exceptional patient care to our patients and families that we serve. Their hard work and dedication is critical to delivering excellence in patient-centered care.

Nurse aide jobs were first established during World War I, when the American Red Cross launched a program called the Volunteer Nurses’ Aide Service. This program trained young women to assist nurses who were being bombarded with injured soldiers and desperately needed assistance. The role has continued to evolve, and the nurse aide role continues to support the patient care team in delivering care that is desperately needed in a variety of healthcare settings today. At Atlantic General Hospital and Health system, we want to recognize you for the top notch patient care that you deliver every day!

Please join us June 20th in Conference Room #1 for a breakfast and photo op for certified nursing assistants (CNAs), nurse technicians, and medical office assistants (MOAs) from 7:00am - 8:00am. The photo will be taken at 7:30am.

Musculoskeletal Disorders – Safe Lifting

Before you lift something, ask yourself these questions:

  • How heavy is the load?
  • Will it be awkward to control?
  • Should I ask for help?
  • Can it be moved mechanically with available equipment?
  • Is it in an accessible position?
  • Does it have sharp edges?
  • Will it be slippery or awkward to lift?
  • Do I need gloves or other protection?
  • Is the new location accessible and ready to accept the item?
  • Is my pathway clear?
  • Will I be able to see where I am going?
  • Is there a safe way to grip the load?

Lift correctly:

  • Your footing is a very important part of lifting. Your feet must be:
  1. Close to the object.
  2. Shoulder-width apart for good balance.
  3. One foot slightly ahead of the other to help keep your center of gravity under control.
  • Bend your knees and go down to a crouch—not to a full squat. Standing up from a full squat takes twice as much effort as standing from a crouch.
  • Keep your back as straight and vertical as possible.
  • Get a good, firm grip. Do not lift until your hold is strong and slip-proof.
  • Lift by straightening your legs. Keep the load close to your body.
  • If you have to change direction, do not twist your body; move your feet as you turn.
  • When setting the load down:
  1. Keep your back straight.
  2. Bend your knees just as you did when you lifted the object.

Be extra careful if you have not lifted recently:

Muscles can weaken and tighten while you are away on weekends, vacations, or sick-days, so use extra caution when returning to work. Physical condition, muscle stretching, and toning are important steps before lifting begins each day.

Do not risk injuring your back; move the load mechanically or ask someone to help you.

Associate COVID-19 Vaccine

Mandate Update

The Federal Register has released a statement lifting the CMS COVID-19 Healthcare Worker vaccine mandate.

In short, this decision indicates that, effective immediately, all COVID-19 vaccine mandates and associated measures may be eliminated. While we will still encourage associates to stay up to date on vaccines and request a copy of any associated vaccine cards, religious and medical exemptions are now null and void. Additionally, masking of unvaccinated associates may cease immediately.

For any questions regarding this update, please reach out to Employee Health/Infection Prevention - ext. 9190.
