THE LEGACY OF JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG
|
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an integral part of sparking change in fighting for women's rights, the LGBTQ community, undocumented people, disabled people, and expanding voting rights. In 1993 she acquired a seat as the second woman and first Jewish person on the Supreme Court. That fighting spirit prevailed through her career championing for women and through her struggle with pancreatic cancer. Justice Ginsburg was diagnosed with three types of cancer (pancreas, lung, and ovarian); however, this did not stop her from fighting for others, and she remained a strong voice in the Supreme Court. Justice Ginsburg battled four bouts of cancer within the past two decades. Her pancreatic cancer reemerged in July 2020, and she passed away on September 18, 2020. Nevertheless, her legacy will live on forever.
|
Thank you to all the patients, caregivers, organizations, physicians, and researchers who work tirelessly in the fight. May they be the lanterns that light the way for progress and change in the study and treatment of pancreatic cancer. May Justice Ginsburg's life and legacy stoke the fires to find better treatments, early direction steps, and preventative measures to fight against pancreatic cancer.
"Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." - Ruth Bader Ginsburg

NPF Registry
In a synergistic partnership, the NPF has teamed up with Backpack Health (a software service of Invicro, LLC) to establish the NPF EMPOWER Portal in an effort to provide a collaborative opportunity for both the patient and medical communities to work collectively towards a cure for pancreatic disease.
Backpack Health is an innovative patient engagement resource app that is designed to help patients and caregivers streamline access and control over personal health information by consolidating from various medical record sources (i.e., patient portals) into a secure, centralized digital environment, along with providing an avenue to share access with healthcare providers to better ensure continuity of care.
By partnering with Backpack Health, NPF can foster a community that empowers individuals to become more proactive in their healthcare by tracking their personal health, along with offering an opportunity to contribute to an information-sharing effort to help lead to better health outcomes across this disease population.
NPF is aiming to launch the NPF EMPOWER Portal in early 2021. Stay tuned for updates at

Nutrition Program: Cookbook & Pocket Guide for Pancreas Disease
In order to address the knowledge gaps in nutrition information in pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, the NPF, in collaboration with Krames, is revamping the cookbook and creating a pocket guide for pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. A comprehensive update will provide handy health information to empower patients to make important health decisions.
The cookbook includes healthy, tasty, and low-fat recipes for pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, pediatric pancreatitis patients, and their families. It also includes an "About the Pancreas" section. The cookbook will be available both in print and as a flipbook on the website.
The Pocket Guide is a unique tool that provides nutritional information using a simple, easy to understand format. The guide is evidence-based and is needed to better educate the patient population on proper nutrition, wellness tips, and enzyme replacement therapy.
The NPF has collaborated with their physicians as well as Krames' extensive network of experts to ensure the guide fits this unmet need. This nutritional program was made possible through a grant from Abbvie.
These items will be available in the late fall of 2020.
