National Quilting Day 2023

March 18, 2023

Celebrate with us as we look at some interesting facts about quilting:

Every 3rd Saturday of March is a day to celebrate the rich tradition of quilt making. The Quilt Alliance and the National Quilt Museum recall the origins of this day, a "Quilter's Day Out" organized by the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society in 1989. Click here to see ways you can celebrate this day.

The Most famous quilt? The Jane A. Stickle Quilt is probably one of the most famous quilts in America, if not the world. Click here to see her magnificent quilt at the Benninington Museum in Vermont.

The Oldest Quilt in the World? The oldest surviving example of a quilted piece is a linen carpet found in a Mongolian cave, dated to between 100 BCE and 200 CE.

How Old is Quiltmaking? The history of quilting can be traced back to at least medieval times. The V&A has early examples in its collection from Europe, India, and the Far East. Click here to see some of their beautiful quilt collections.
And to celebrate National Quilting Day, here is a gift for you, a quilt pattern entitled, Rings of Love.

This is one of my favorite quilts to snuggle under. I hope you enjoy it too.

It also includes a punch needle design for your stitching pleasure.

On the Design Wall

My newest project is progressing! Several more of the supporting cast of blocks to surround last month's center were drafted.

In February, I stitched three of the blocks! Here is a peek at one of the blocks, yellow roses in memory of Mom.

I am getting more excited with each block! A layout for the quilt is coming together too.

I will keep you posted on its progress. A block of the month for the website?
The Colly Bird is complete, the fourth ornament in the 12 Days of Christmas series by mmmcrafts.blogspot.com.

The embroidery for the fifth ornament is finished, and I am excited to put this one together!

These ornaments are fun stitching. The instructions are great. The patterns use basic stitches with elegant results.

In the Classroom

Toned Down Circle Sampler (also available as a webinar class)
2nd Saturday of each month, February 2023 through July 2023
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe, Jacksonville, FL

This is a fun, addicting, and creative project by Sue Spargo! Join Jan as you hand embroidery 1” wool circles on a 17.5” x 16” sampler.

Stitch the circles exactly as Sue designed them in the pattern, use some of the designs Jan included on her sampler, OR design some of your own circles. You will totally be amazed what fits on a 1” circle and how easy these designs are to stitch!

In class you will make the circle foundation, learn stitches used in Sue’s designs, how to mark designs on the circles, how to create your own designs, and be inspired to finish this project along side others sharing the joy with you!

This class will be available on site at Cinnamons Quilt Shop as well as via WebEx for our out-of-town customers. Contact the shop to sign up for the WebEx class.

Stitching Companions
Little Josie cannot get close enough to me in the evenings. It is a constant battle of the wills as to whether she will sit on my lap while I am trying to stitch.

So the next best thing is to nestle on top of Doogan so she can be in touching distance to me. Ever once in awhile, a little paw comes up from under my stitching just to let me know she is close.

Love these two characters so much. We are blessed to care for them during their time here on earth.
