NC Compass Live Webinar on National RTAP Resource Library

The Nebraska Library Commission is hosting an NC Compass Live webinar on April 17, 2019, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET: An Inside Look at the National RTAP Resource Library. New National RTAP Checklist: What Transit Agencies Need to Inform the Public About Before Making Changes

What Transit Agencies Need to Inform the Public About Before Making Changes is a new National RTAP checklist that agencies can use to determine what they need to notify the public about and gather public comments. Potential changes a transit agency may make are grouped into three areas: compliance, priorities and strategies, and allocating funds. Resource links on administrative procedures, public hearings, and informal rulemaking are provided.

National RTAP/CTE Zero-Emission Transition Chat

Join National RTAP and the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) on April 10, 2019 from 2:00-3:00 PM ET for a #ZeroEmissionTransition Twitter Chat. The chat will focus how to improve our climate and communities through clean, efficient, and sustainable transportation. RSVP to [email protected]

U.S. DOT and FTA Updates

On March 29, 2019, FTA launched a Human Trafficking Awareness and Public Safety Initiative with $4 million funding to prevent human trafficking and other crimes occuring on public transportation. Submissions for Innovations in Transit Public Safety and Crime Prevention and Public Safety Awareness grants are due on May 28, 2019.

FTA is holding a webinar on their Low or No Emission Program 2019 Competitive Funding Opportunity on April 11, 2019 from 2:00- 3:30 PM.

Publications

TCRP's Impacts of the Americans with Disabilities Act on Transit Agency Liability presents an assessment of challenges in the implementation of the ADA from the perspective of transit operators. Additionally, this digest summarizes relevant FTA ADA guidance.

Transportation for America's Shared Micromobility Playbook covers micromobility operations, equipment, safety, equity, communications, community engagement and data. The playbook identifies key policy areas, and provides case studies of areas that have enacted policies.

NCHRP's Best Practices and Marketing to Increase Rural Transit Ridership and Investment includes individual best practices and examples of ways to understand return on investment. Experiences and lessons learned are presented by topic and illustrated with case studies.

FTA has published the March 2019 Transit Safety and Oversight Spotlight newsletter. Upcoming trainings, such as Fundamentals of Bus Collision Investigation and Transit Bus System Safety, are announced.

Webinars and Training

University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies is hosting a webinar about Toward Zero Deaths Key Partner/Stakeholder Engagement and Communication on April 10 from 12:00-1:00 PM ET. The session will introduce a self-assessment tool about engagement and communication practices.

New National RTAP Procurement Topic Guide

We've created a Procurement Topic Guide in March 2019. The topic guide includes FTA resources, National RTAP resources, training courses and templates and outlines.

Opportunities

AmeriCorps Indian Tribes Grants provide funding for programs that strengthen tribal communities and solve local problems through service and volunteering. Focus areas include disaster preparation, response, recovery, and mitigation, and community resilience. The deadline is May 2, 2019.

TCRP is soliciting individuals to ser on its Oversight and Project Selection (TOPS) Committee. Letters of Interest are due April 10, 2019.

U.S. counties can participate in the Center for Digital Government and National Association of Counties 2019 Digital Counties Survey. Characteristics include innovation and resiliency. The deadline for submissions is April 11, 2019.

APTA is asking for nominations for its annual Best of the Best awards through April 17, 2019.

Legislation

On March 9, 2019, FMCSA amended the 2016 Minimum Training Requirements for Entry-Level Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators. The amendment adopts a new Class A CDL theory of instruction and its curriculum reduces training time and costs incurred by Class B CDL holders upgrading to a Class A CDL.

Calling All Students

Students who already have a completed paper or who have ideas may consider submitting a research poster to the 4th National RTAP Technical Assistance Conference: Charting New Trails for Rural & Tribal Transit. Students can share original studies on transportation with top industry leaders at a national conference. Winners receive awards.

Rural iNTD Data Now Available for 2017

National RTAP has updated our Rural iNTD web page . The 2017 rural National Transit Database data from FTA have been added to Rural iNTD (Integrated National Transit Database).
