Hello!

As a National STD Curriculum registered user, we want to alert you to the updated CDC Gonorrhea Treatment Guidelines revised due to the declining effectiveness of cefixime. Visit our gonorrhea module and question bank to learn more about these new (December 2020) guidelines.

While we await the pending release of the new 2021 CDC STI Treatment Guidelines, the CE period of many National STD Curriculum modules and question bank topics was extended to December 31, 2021. This extension will allow us the flexibility to deploy the National STD Curriculum 2nd Edition when the new 2021 Guidelines become available. The 2nd Edition will also launch a new 3-year CE accreditation period and provide American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) board certified physicians opportunities to earn free CME credit and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points.
In fall 2020, we launched the National STD Curriculum Podcast series exploring innovative and influential STD treatment and prevention topics and their clinical implications. Catch up with these short (~15-minute) episodes about PrEP (HIV preexposure prophylaxis) and STDs, STDs during COVID-19, gonorrhea, rectal chlamydia, and doxycycline prophylaxis. Listen wherever you get your podcasts, or on our site where transcripts are also available.
Other IDEA curricula updates: (1) National HIV Curriculum 2nd Edition, launched September 1, 2020, offering 97 new CME, MOC, CNE, and Certificates of Completion; (2) Hepatitis C Online 3rd Edition began rolling out in October 2020; and (3) Hepatitis B Online released a new module, Initial Evaluation of Persons with Chronic Hepatitis B, on October 1, 2020.

We hope you and yours have a healthy and happy 2021!

Respectfully,
David H. Spach, MD
