Where can you sleep in a tent, cook over a fire, ride a zip line across a river…twice, explore the cave where Jesse James once hid stolen treasure, test your outdoor skills and meet new friends?
This and more are possible at the upcoming National Jamboree being held at Huzzah Valley Resort in Steelville, Missouri. Girl Guards and Rangers from across the country will converge there July 10-15, 2016.
This year Tustin Ranch is sending our youth to the National Jamboree. Carmen Magdaleno is leading a group including D.J. Ferguson, Dylan Gregory and Zack Sparks. Please pray for safe travels and an amazing time at the Jamboree!

A Cry for Christ in Higher Education
|
|
Vanguard University and other Bible believing Universities are suffering the possible prohibition of faith-base education.
President
Michael J. Beals, PhD from Vanguard University explains. "Vanguard and other faith-based colleges and universities across the State continue to work in good faith with California lawmakers to find an agreeable compromise on the language of this legislation. If passed without amendment however, SB 1146 would have the devastating impact of eliminating faith-based higher education in California." He urges believers to pay very close attention in voting day.
How can you help!
Step 1: Spread the word to stop SB 1146 (bill) which removes religious freedom from Higher education.
Step 2:
Contact Your State Legislators.
"Make a phone call to your legislator... Feel free to offer your reason. The important message is to express your concerns about the restriction of religious freedom that SB 1146 would impose on Vanguard and all of California’s faith-based colleges and universities."
Step 3: Pray!!
"Pray for this moment in California history when religious liberty is being threatened. Pray for clarity and favor for those legislators who are standing for faith-based higher education. Pray for faith-based colleges and universities in California. Pray for Vanguard."

by Captain Jillian O'Brien, SoCal DYS
It's that time again. Tomorrow, Friday, April 1st, registration for WYI 2016 will open. The theme this year is "Adopted." Ephesians 1:5 says, "He predestined us into adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will." THQ Youth Dept. has been working hard on developing the content and a great week for all the staff and delegates. Theme: Adopted Dates: August 1-6, 2016 Location: Camp Redwood Glen (Santa Cruz, CA) Who is eligible to come? Anyone 16-25 at the start of WYI with the maturity to participate fully in the WYI programming (soldiership is not a requirement) Application Process: 1. Delegate completes application 2. If minor, parent/guardian must sign off granting permission 3. Corps Officer must endorse applicant by signing off then emails it to DYS 4. DYS must endorse applicant by signing off then emails copy to THQ Youth Dept. Registration & Fee Breakdown: Early Bird Mid-Registration Final Registration April 1 - May 6 May 7 - June 10 June 11 - July 15 Delegate Portion = $115 Delegate Portion = $125 Delegate Portion = $160 Division Portion = $115 Division Portion = $125 Division Portion = $160 THQ Portion = $390 THQ Portion = $370 THQ Portion = $300 A few questions have already rolled in regarding Service Corps participants attending WYI. Service Corps participants will already be at Camp Redwood Glen for debriefing. If they've registered for WYI and submitted that to THQ, THQ will cover their registration fees entirely. The participant is responsible to coordinate all travel home from WYI. THQ will not be covering that expense. If you have any delegates who are unsure if WYI is the place for them, or if you are unsure of what WYI is all about, please follow this link (WYI Values) to view the videos of what we value at WYI. A new video is released weekly (9 total). We hope it gives you and them insight on the focus and goals of our week together.
The application will also be available for download at SAYCONNECT.COM. The application looks a little different this year, but the information required and the process for endorsements remains the same. Please just take an extra moment to review each application before you submit it since signatures are in different spots than you may be used to.

Many of our corps and centers of ministry find unique ways to provide for the needs of the local community. We should be proud of what we do.
Here's a story of one community who take fallen trees, and provide much needed warmth for those in need. May each of us find way to unite our community in meeting needs in the name of Jesus Christ.

May 6, 2016 From IHQ Communications, International Headquarters, 5/6/16
NEWS RELEASE:
Salvation Army in Canada launches emergency response as entire city evacuated due to wildfires
London, 6 May 2016/IHQ/ – A MAJOR emergency response is underway in Alberta, Canada, following wildfires that have led to the complete evacuation of the city of Fort McMurray –affecting nearly 90,000 residents and workers. The Salvation Army has deployed four community response vehicles to the scene and is supporting more than 1,100 firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel with the provision of cold drinks, snacks and full meals.
The area affected by the fires covers some 850 square kilometres (328 square miles) and has led to at least 1,600 buildings being destroyed.
The Salvation Army’s established and well-rehearsed emergency protocols ensured that the international church and charity was ready to mobilize quickly after the fires began on Sunday 1 May. Teams are working closely with other agencies to determine how best to assist and to ensure that no needs go unmet. A dedicated disaster response team has been established at the Alberta and Northern Territories Divisional Headquarters in Edmonton in order to coordinate The Salvation Army’s ongoing response.
Before the fires intensified and led to a city-wide evacuation of Fort McMurray, The Salvation Army was providing food and water, clothing and hygiene packages to displaced residents. All Salvation Army officers and staff in Fort McMurray were safely evacuated, and additional personnel have been drafted in from elsewhere in Canada.
Divisional Commander Major Ron Cartmell explains that the emergency response will continue long after the fire is brought under control: ‘Once people can return home, The Salvation Army will be present to provide practical support as well as emotional and spiritual care.’
