Abilene Commemorates D-Day

The Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau announces "Abilene Supports our D-Day Troops" commemoration sponsored by the CVB and Holm Automotive Center.

"This is a special time for our community, not only is it the 75th anniversary of D-Day, but also the 150th anniversary of our community's incorporation," said Tim Holm. "I'm proud to support the Eisenhower Foundation's museum exhibit redesign campaign and I encourage everyone to participate in the 75th anniversary of D-Day commemoration and celebrate those who fought for our freedom."
Contest

The properties with the most patriotic displays for the 75th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2019, will win cash prizes!

Two categories of eligibility: 1: Commercial and residential properties in Abilene's Historic Downtown District and those along Buckeye Avenue and 2: Everywhere else in City limits.

Prizes for category 1: First place: $500; second: $250, third: $100.

Prizes for category 2: First place $250; second: $100; and third: $50.

To participate, pick up a "We Like Ike" yard or window sign for $10 at the CVB office or Visitors Center. Proceeds from the signs will go to the Little Ike Park project.

Mary Jean Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, will serve as the contest judge.

"Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to our five-star community," said Julie Roller, Abilene CVB director. "Let's show the world what an iconic American community looks like when it remembers what General Eisenhower and Veterans did for freedom everywhere!"

For more information, or to pick up a sign, please contact the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau at 201 NW 2nd or call (785) 263-2231.
