WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 13, 2022) – Today, Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League congratulates Judge Dana Douglas for her Senate confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, making her the 97th-lifetime confirmation for the Biden administration:
“Today, Dana Douglas was officially confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, making her the first Black woman to serve in this role. We thank President Biden for his continued leadership to ensure our courts reflect the rich diversity of our nation’s people, and members of the United States Senate that voted in favor of Judge Douglas’ nomination for their efforts to push this confirmation through.
“In July, the National Urban League sent a letter to the Senate supporting Judge Douglas’ nomination. I have watched Judge Douglas grow as a professional since her days in high school in New Orleans and have always admired her focus, diligence, and character – attributes that have served her well throughout her legal and judicial career. She is more than prepared and well qualified to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals and the people of the 5th Circuit.
“On behalf of 92 affiliates and the Urban League movement, we send our sincerest congratulations to Dana on this historic confirmation. We know she will bring new insight to the court that it has not yet had. We look forward to seeing her take on this new role.”
