Hello Friends!


It is almost Mother's Day! We adore our mothers, mother-like loved ones, and amazing caregivers, so we have listed some great gift suggestions below. Also, this week's native plant presale and popup will give you some opportunity to grab a lovely native plant for the green-thumb moms in your life! For moms who enjoy or are interested in bird photography, a registration for the photography class from Jill and Wayne at the Wrightsville Beach nesting colony would make an excellent experiential gift, scroll down for details on that class. And lastly, if the moms in your life already have it all, we have gift certificates available which we can mail for you!


We have some expanded hours to share with you. Starting today our new store hours will be:


Monday 10-430

Tuesday-Saturday 10-6

and Sunday 12-4

Please keep in mind that we offer curbside pickup. If you prefer not to go into the store in person, just give us a call and order on the phone. We will bring it out to your car for you! No contact, safe, and helpful!

Mother's Day Gifts


Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 8th. We know every mom loves a good quality gift, so we have a few great gift suggestions outlined here.


A new pair of binoculars can change the way you experience birding, a gorgeous fancy house makes for a useful and eye-catching addition to any yard, and these fun-shaped bird feeders will add charm to your mom's feeder set up! Cute birdhouses, jewelry, or a helpful gift certificate are also great gifts to consider. Our staff are experienced and thoughtful and will happily help you work through any ideas or questions you might have while gift shopping.

Native Plant Sale


Our wonderful friends from Going Native Gardens are back again folks! And better timing we can't imagine! Spring is in full swing and these plants are ready to make themselves at home in your garden.


We will be running the plant presale of the spring this week from today, Wednesday 5/4 through Friday 5/6. Come by or call us (910-343-6001) to place your order. Then, on Saturday 5/7, stop by the shop to pick up your plants!


Also on Saturday, from 10:00 -1:30, Going Native will be offering a popup plant sale! Some of the plants for the pop up sale include:

Columbine, purple coneflower, beauty berry, Carolina wild petunia, Virginia Sweet Spire, and spotted bee balm. They will also offer some vegetable and herb plants- mainly, tomatoes and basil!

Heliopsis helianthoides

Also called early sunflower and false sunflower, it is a sunflower that does not spread underground. Flowers are showy, large, and yellow

Height: 3-6 feet

Soil: Moist, well-drained

Sun: light sun

Bloom time: Summer to Fall

New England Aster 

Symphyotrichum novae-angliae

Large purple flowers with a yellow center. Nectar attracts bees and butterflies, including migrating Monarch butterflies. Songbirds and small mammals eat the seeds in October and November

Soil: good for rain gardens

Bloom time: August to October

An attractive grass that forms in upright clumps and produces long flattened spikelets. In the Fall, the grass is tinged pink and gold

Lobelia siphilitica

An excellent source of nectar for hummingbirds and nocturnal sphinx moths
