A pair of diamond earrings by India-based jewelry designer Nirav Modi sold for over $1.38 million at a recent Christie's jewelry auction in Hong Kong.

 

Christie's Hong Kong - June 3, 2011 

The centerpiece of one of the earrings is an oval-shaped 2.22-carat blue diamond, set within a diamond frame and matched with a pear-shaped Golconda white diamond at its top.

 

In the other earring, the stones are reversed: A larger white diamond weighing 2.06 carats hangs from the circular frame while a smaller blue diamond on the other end of the ear piece. The diamonds, which include smaller pink ones, are mounted on a spine of 18-karat white gold.

Christie's offered The Perfect Pink, a rare 14.23 carat Fancy Intense Pink diamond, as the lead highlight in Jewels: The Hong Kong Sale. In over 244 years of auction history, only 18 diamonds over 10 carats showing a distinct pure pink colour have appeared for sale and not one was graded a Fancy Intense Pink at the time, placing this extraordinary diamond in a class completely of its own.   The Perfect Pink is a phenomenon in the world of gems and is offered with an estimate of HK$110-150 million (US$14-19 million).

A modified rectangular-cut fancy vivid purple-pink diamond of 6.89 carats was sold for $6,914,500 at Christie's New York Jewels auction yesterday (Tuesday). The auction total, $22.1 million, brought Christie's New York jewelry sales total to $131 million for the year the highest total ever for the U.S. jewelry auction market.

 

The anonymous buyer paid $1 million per carat for the diamond, in what can be described as a sizzling market. Demand for large and fancy color diamonds is pushing prices to record breaking levels.

for a blue diamond at auction
when it sold for $15.7 million to an Asian collector, Christie's auction house said.

The Bvlgari Blue Diamond, a ring designed in the 1970s, was expected to fetch around $12 million at an auction Wednesday in New York, owing to the rarity and size.

Featuring a triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond of 10.95 carats - paired with triangular-shaped colorless diamond of 9.87 carats - it was? the largest triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond ever to appear at auction, Christie's said.

the highest price ever paid for a diamond at auction in Canada. A rare pink diamond billed as the most expensive auctioned in Canada has sold for $2.3 million.

Most pink diamonds weigh less than three carats.The buyer-who remains anonymous-has naming rights to the diamond, a VS2. The bid shattered the previous record of $250,000 for the most paid for a gem in Canada.

in New York City was dubbedMagnificent Jewels. An understatement, perhaps, for this trinket: a 7.67 ct., internally flawless rare fancy intense pinkish-orange diamond ring.

Colored diamonds are super-hot on the auction circuit; in the last half of 2009, "pink, blue, and green all broke records per carat," notes Robert May, executive director of the Natural Color Diamond Association.

Last December, a 5 ct. vivid pink went for-wait for it-$10.8 million. At $3.11 million, this pinkish-orange stunner is a
veritable bargain.

A fancy intense blue cushion-shaped diamond weighing
7.64carats,mounted in yellow gold and platinum, saw competition from at least three potential buyers before selling to an anonymous client for $8,034,503 at a Sotheby's auction in Geneva.

The sale of the diamond, which had an estimate of between $4-6 million, sets a new record price of $1,051,636 per for carat for a fancy intense blue diamond sold at auction. Sotheby's established the current world record price per carat at auction (USD $796,178) for a fancy intense blue diamond in November 2009 in Geneva with the sale of a 3.17 carat round brilliant-cut stone.Right click to download

Sold at Christie's London for $24.3 million - 35.56ct Cushion Shape Natural Blue Diamond Wittelsbach - Graff

This 35.56-carat, cushion-shaped diamond sold at a Christie's London
auction in December 2008.Thelegendary deep grayish-blue gem from India passed through the hands of many royal families and spent two centuries in the House of Bavaria as the family diamond of the Wittelsbachs, according to Christie's.

It was recently renamed the Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond.

The internally flawless diamond previously weighed in at 35.56 carats, however through re-polishing to
bring out the color by its owner Laurence Graff, the stone's weight decreased.
The Gemological Institute of America has noted the rare diamond to be "the largest, Flawless, Fancy Deep Blue, Natural Color we have graded to date..." I wonder if Infanta Margarita Teresa realized what a very lucky girl she was when this was in her possession.

Sold at Sotheby's Geneva for $3.08 Million - 2.52ct Green Vivid Diamon

Sotheby's Geneva sold a rare 2.52 carat green diamond to an
anonymous buyer for a whoppin $3.08 million. It was the largest vivid-green diamond ever to appear atauction and the sale set a new world-record price per carat for a green diamond at auction. Swiss jeweler Chatila paid $2.52 million for a 3.17-carat fancy intense blue diamond which set a new world-record price per carat for an intense blue diamond sold at auction.

It is the highest sum a vivid green diamond has ever fetched.
