Traditionally Inspired American Made™. This 18th century technique of preserving wood with fire is refreshed for today’s design. Aggressively burning the surface layer of our PEFC sourced Larch, we then wire-brush each plank multiple times to remove the soft char and expose the contrasting grain below. This heavily textured and visually dynamic surface can be left unfinished or can be coated with an exterior grade finish as shown here in White; where a zebra pattern is created with the cool white and black char.

ACCOYA Deep Char combines durability and sustainability. This modern, acetylated wood option provides stability in nearly any environment. Traditionally maintenance-free, the charred layer is expected to change over time when exposed to the elements. We finish our Deep Char with an ebony tinted poly sealer to protect and prolong its distinctive look—ACCOYA Deep Char provides longevity to be enjoyed for decades to come.

For homeowners Doug and Lynne building a beach house in Washington State was a dream years in the making. Designing and building a custom home is often challenging under the best of circumstances but going through the process in 2020 when the Covid19 pandemic struck added new challenges.

We caught up with Doug to talk about the challenges of custom home design, the unique building conditions the project faced, and why they selected Pioneer Millworks Larch Shou Sugi Ban cladding for the exterior of their new home.

Read about it in our blog.
