...We have exciting news you have been waiting for...

...The Secret Garden Preserve is...

After five years of of closure, Kennebunk Land Trust is thrilled to announce the grand opening of The Secret Garden, a newly re-established trail opened in partnership with Evergreen Cemetery.

Through this partnership, Evergreen Cemetery and KLT are opening access to a unique space that blends cultural heritage with natural conservation.

Thanks to the support of our members, donors, and awesome volunteers, we’ve cleared debris and downed trees, improved water crossings, added new directional trail blazes, and created a new trail map.

A paring area has been marked to the right of the trailhead at the back of Evergreen Cemetery, 1 Port Road. Please respect the Evergreen Cemetery rules and observe all outdoor safety guidelines.

As the trail continues to be restored after years of closure, we encourage visitors to travel with care while we upgrade the parking area, rebuild bridges, and update mapping and signage. Happy Trails!

Give & Get Outdoors!

Join Kennebunk Land Trust, The Community Gourmet, COS, and Go Kennebunks: Little Pantry for a nature-themed food and fundraising event!

We are excited for a chance to support the work of the three local food security organizations, through a nature walk program. Enjoy a reflective walk through the woods and get some goodies after supporting our community service organizations.

When:

Sunday, November 23rd, 10a.m. - 2 p.m.

Where:

Tributary Preserve (at the end of Drala Drive off of Alfred Road)

What:

Visitors come to the preserve parking area, and drop off either a non-perishable item (see list of preferred items!), or a monetary donation via Venmo or cash/check.

Once donation is received, visitors head over to the Tributary Preserve Trailhead to get their goodie bag and create a clay figure or pet rock. Then, take a reflective walk through the forest to place your item in a special location of your choosing.

All donated items and monetary donations will be split evenly between the three pantries.

Orange and bright colored clothing is recommended for all people and pets exploring the woods during hunting season.

Hunting Season is open from September 6th - December 31st.

Be seen with items from KLT for your and your pet!

KLT preserves that allow hunting:

  • Alewive Woods
  • For All Forever
  • Alewive Annex
  • Punky Swamp
  • Clark Preserve
  • Gooch's Creek (Bow hunting only)
  • Welch Preserve (Bow hunting only)

If you haven't heard...

...we are building a special new trail and need your help!

Kennebunk Land Trust is building an Improved Access trail at Alewive Woods Preserve!

Improved access trails help more people experience the benefits of nature.

Traditional Trails:

  • Narrow
  • Uneven
  • Steep
  • Slippery
  • Challenging to enjoy

Our Trail:

  • 5-feet wide
  • Stable surface and gentle inclines
  • Designated rest areas
  • Detailed maps and signage
  • Trail markers for emergency services

Traditional nature trails can often be difficult or impossible for many people to navigate.

This new and thoughtfully designed trail will be wide, flat, and stable to accommodate wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, and more - making it easier for even more people to enjoy the peace and beauty of the outdoors.

We’re fundraising to bring this project to life!

Help us get even more people to have fun outside.
