Trail Restoration and Water Mitigation

The trail at For All Forever was experiencing extreme erosion. Heavy rain events brought rushing water, and the clay soil underneath the trail was particularly susceptible to eroding away.

Thanks to a very generous donor and very smart volunteers, we are able to restore the trail with water mitigation techniques and create a more sustainable trail, that's not a muddy mess!

Crews are installing a culvert under the trail to move the water where it wants to go, without running over the trail and taking the silt with it into the river.

Thank you to Stuart Excavating for your support and efforts on this project!

A swale was dug alongside the existing trail to move water away from the trail, into the woods, and to the river. This prevents trail erosion from rushing water. The swale consists of bars made of rocks that slow the water down as the water dams up behind it and slowly seeps out through spaces between the rocks.
