Learning about Accessibility to Nature
In Many Forms
Have you ever wanted to spend some time in nature, but we're either physically prohibited by a trail, or felt uncomfortable navigating the outdoors?
Accessibly to the outdoors varies across public land - from trails unable to support wheelchairs or strollers, excessively rooty and uneven terrain, or lack of mapping and way finding. Accessibility is more than just proper trail width or elevation, but is creating a welcoming experience for people to be comfortable in nature.
Kennebunk Land Trust is endeavoring to open up our preserves for more public access, through better information sharing on trail conditions, parking, and trail mapping, improving terrain conditions, and generally making the trails more welcoming. We are even partnering with the Kennebunk High School Alterative Education program to support these goals. Stay tuned as we develop this project!
