Dear Chamber Member,
It was wonderful to see so many of you during our breakfast with Mayor Hess event last week at the Crystal Room. Mayor Hess gave all of the attendees a great overview of where things are headed in the New Year in the Borough. Scroll down to see some photos from the event and a recap of some of Mayor Hess' announcements concerning projects coming in 2022.
We have scheduled our annual Legislative Summit for Friday, February 11 at the Wyndham Southbury. We have invited Governor Ned Lamont, as well as all of the area's legislators. This will be an opportunity to hear firsthand from lawmakers and to learn about our Legislative Agenda for 2022. If you are interested in sponsoring this event, please contact our Events Director, Chris Caulfield to secure your spot for this highly-anticipated event.
On February 24, we will hold our annual Dibble Award dinner, an opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of businesses in the Borough. Named in honor of Lewis A. Dibble, who was a founder of the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce, this award has been given out each year since 1976. Stay tuned for additional details.
We are now accepting nominations for the 2022 Malcolm Baldrige Community Award. If you would like to secure your sponsorship for this event and have your company logo placed on the invitation, please let us know by January 28. You can scroll down for more details.

Breakfast with Mayor Hess Recap
|
|
On Friday, December 10, the Naugatuck Chamber held it's annual Mayoral Breakfast at the Crystal Room. This year's keynote speaker was Mayor N. Warren "Pete" Hess, who provided an inside look at upcoming projects in the Borough. Mayor Hess talked about various projects that are in the works and are aimed at generating new tax revenue and making the Borough a better play to live, work, and play.
During his presentation, Mayor Hess discussed the following topics:
- Adding bike paths and streetscape projects (new landscaping, infrastructure changes) to the downtown area.
- Fixing the storm water drainage system.
- Creating more parking opportunities downtown. The Borough is interested in purchasing the old Bank of America building, which would allow for more public parking.
- Facilitating the creation of a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) project in the downtown area.
- Establishing the International Inland Port of Naugatuck. In an attempt to relieve some of the pressure on seaport transportation, Mayor Hess said the Borough is trying to get a Class 1 railroad to make a deal and help establish Naugatuck as an area for major railroad freight to pass through.
- Using $9.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARP) funding for infrastructure improvements in the Borough.
Looking ahead to the New Year, Mayor Hess hinted at a major announcement coming in January related to the Waterbury-Naugatuck Industrial Park, which has the potential to create 1,000 jobs. In February, the Borough will take over the title for the former Uniroyal property for $1. The current owner is cleaning the site, which will eventually be capped. Mayor Hess said there are discussions to create a new industrial park with four or five different areas for businesses, as the current industrial park is at capacity and there is no new space available for manufacturing.
