Dear Members of the Nauset Garden Club,
Well, the world is finally turning green – everything except my hydrangeas and a couple of climbing roses, unfortunately. I’m still holding on to the slim hope that some of these bare stalks will suddenly wake up and remember what May is all about!!! As for me, my memory has improved somewhat from last month so I am actually sending you the proposed bylaw amendment that we would have voted on at the May meeting if I had only remembered to send it to you!!! So here it is. Please review the following in anticipation of our voting on it at our annual meeting on June 21:
Proposed Bylaw Amendment
- Current language: SECTION 1. The operating budget shall be approved by the Board and passed by a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting at a membership meeting. The Board shall approve any proposed expenses greater than 5% of a line item as designated in the Club’s annual budget prior to those expenses being incurred.
- Proposed language: SECTION 1. The operating budget must be approved by the Board and passed by a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting at a membership meeting. A Board Member must seek the Board's approval prior to incurring any expense that would cause a line item's budget to be exceeded by 5% or more.
In addition to the above bylaw, we will also be voting to approve the following slate of officers for next year:
VICE PRESIDENT . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Tina Williamson
SECRETARY…. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . Joan Karter
TREASURER. …. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Deborah Reuman
ASSISTANT TREASURER…. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Carol Alper
As I mentioned at our May meeting, we will have no President this coming year. Various Board members will be performing the duties associated with our monthly Board and Membership Meetings. We HAVE had some recent success, however, in completing the Board itself with only a couple of positions remaining to be filled. The current list of 2023-24 Board members may be found HERE. Please let me know if you might be willing to help out in these vacant areas.
ANNUAL MEETING
Wednesday, June 21, 11:30 – My home – 150 Quanset Rd., South Orleans
Speaking of voting at our next meeting – that would be the Annual Meeting/picnic in my garden on June 21 at 11:30. Please see the invitation HERE to make a reservation. IMPORTANT NOTICE: There is no parking possible in our driveway. In addition, there is limited parking on the street so attendees MUST carpool, either from home or by arranging to meet behind the Speedway/South Orleans P.O on Route 28. If you have trouble walking, please have your carpool driver drive you in and drop you off before parking on the street. IMPORTANT NOTICE #2: contrary to earlier requests, you DO NOT need to bring your own chair. I have stolen an adequate number from unsuspecting neighbors, so we’re covered!!!

FINALLY
On a final note – I am deeply sorry that I will not be with you all at Crosby in Bloom. I have several dozen plants that will be attending, but without me. Timing is everything and Dick and I will be on somewhat of a grandchild-inspired multi-city road trip for the first 12 days of June. We begin in Boston with grandson #3’s middle school play, driving the next day to Princeton to watch grandson #1 row for Wesleyan in the National Crew Championships, then on to Pittsburgh for a 20th Anniversary Celebration for an organization I’ve been working with for all 20 years, and finally ending up in DC for grandson #2’s high school graduation. (We have three additional grandchildren, but fortunately for us, they’re not doing anything particularly noteworthy that week!!!) All four of these events conveniently have scheduled themselves to allow us to move smoothly from one to another without missing anything. It does mean, however, that I will miss Crosby and I am really sorry not to be there to see the fruits of all your labor and creativity and to cheer you on. Bravo to you and congratulations for all your hard work. I can’t wait to hear the fantastic results!! Send pics!!!
All the best,
